New York Jets wide receiver Eric Decker has been placed on injured reserve because of a torn rotator cuff, the team announced Wednesday. NFL Media’s Ian Rapoport painted an even worse picture for Decker’s future in 2016. This is a blow to fantasy football owners because Decker has been a productive wideout for the Jets after joining them in 2014. He missed the last two games, but the veteran receiver hauled in nine passes for 194 yards and two touchdowns during the first three games of the campaign. Decker’s absence means the Jets’ top receiver, Brandon Marshall, should have an even larger role in the offense. He had 12 receptions for 2... NESN.com

David Ortiz Is Retiring At The Top Of His Game, And He’s Fine With That
Share this: BOSTON — First things first: David Ortiz’s career ended too soon. After producing one of the greatest regular seasons by a player his age in baseball history, the Boston Red Sox slugger played in just three more postseason games, the last of which was a 4-3 loss to the Cleveland Indians in Game 3 of the American League Division Series. It was a disappointing final chapter in an otherwise fairytale career for the 40-year-old Dominican Republic native. So, as one might expect, it was only a matter of minutes before the second-guessing began. Frank Thomas isn’t the only one to question Ortiz’s retirement decision. How could you not after watching the guy hit .315 with 38 home runs and 127 RBIs, numbers he hasn’t
What Game 3 Rainout Means For Red Sox’s Rotation, Bullpen In ALDS
Share this: BOSTON — The Red Sox’s season lives to see at least another day. Game 3 of the American League Division Series between the Red Sox and Cleveland Indians at Fenway Park was postponed Sunday due to rain, pushing the contest to Monday at 6:08 p.m. ET. Playoff rainouts can have a big impact on pitching availability, especially in a five-game series. But in the case of the Red Sox and Indians, not much will change in Game 3: Both managers confirmed Sunday that Boston’s Clay Buchholz and Cleveland’s Josh Tomlin still are set to start Monday. The Red Sox, of course, face a do-or-die situation trailing the series 0-2, and Sunday’s rainout will help give a breather to a bullpen that employed six pitchers
Jonathan Cooper Reportedly Cut By Patriots Before Making New England Debut
by Zack Cox on Sat, Oct 8, 2016 at 2:31PM 4,667 Share this: The Jonathan Cooper era in New England has ended before it truly could begin. The Patriots on Saturday released Cooper, a source told ESPN’s Field Yates. The 26-year-old guard had yet to appear in a game for New England as he continued to recover from a foot injury suffered during the first week of training camp. In a corresponding move, the Patriots signed defensive lineman Woodrow Hamilton off their practice squad, a source told NESN.com’s Doug Kyed. Hamilton will shore up the team’s defensive front, which lacked depth entering Sunday’s matchup with the Cleveland Browns. Cooper’s reported release came three days after he was removed from the Patriots’ injury report for the first time this
Rick Porcello Drops The Ball As Red Sox Fall To Indians In ALDS Game 1
Share this: The Boston Red Sox no doubt went into Game 1 of their American League Division Series against the Cleveland Indians with a lot of confidence in their starting pitcher. Rick Porcello pitched himself into AL Cy Young contention during the 2016 season with a 22-4 record, 3.15 ERA, 1.01 WHIP and a career-low .230 batting average against. But unfortunately for the Red Sox, that wasn’t the Rick Porcello who showed up for Boston’s 5-4 loss at Progressive Field on Thursday. The Porcello who showed up Thursday got off to a great start, striking out the side in the first inning after hitting leadoff batter Carlos Santana. But once the second rolled around, the right-hander gave up the 1-0 lead the Red
Ranking Red Sox-Indians ALDS Storylines From Elite Shortstops To Terry Francona
The American League Division Series will go, at most, five games. When you think about it, that doesn’t seem like much, especially after playing 162 games (or 161 in the case of the Cleveland Indians). But even in a relatively short period of time, there’s plenty to sink your teeth into. That’s certainly the case in both American League Division Series, especially with the Texas Rangers and Toronto Blue Jays renewing their newfound rivalry … you might have heard what happened last time they met. But there’s no shortage of juicy storylines for the matchup pitting the Boston Red Sox against the Indians. In fact, we went ahead and ranked s... NESN.com
