The first day of full competition began Saturday in Rio de Janeiro, and the United States already took home the first gold medal. Ginny Thrasher captured the top spot in the women’s 10-meter air rifle and was followed by China’s Du Li and Yi Siling, who took silver and bronze, respectively. We’ll keep you updated on the medal count throughout the 2016 Rio Games. Here’s how it’s looking so far. Olympic Games Rio 2016: Officials Lose Keys To Stadium, Had To Use Bolt Cutters

Share this: Things in Rio de Janeiro aren’t off to a hot start ahead of the official opening to the 2016 Summer Olympics, and they reached an almost comical peak Wednesday. While the Olympics kick off with the opening ceremonies Friday, women’s soccer got an early start with its preliminary round Wednesday. Brazil had the honor of christening Olympic Stadium with a match against China, but there was just one little problem. Rio officials lost the keys to one of the gates. Compared to concerns about Zika virus and water contaminated with human waste that’s almost sure to get athletes sick, though, losing a key is nothing. Plus, the host country ended up earning a 3-0 win, so you win some, you lose some, we guess. Thumbnail photo via Geoff

Mookie Betts’ Stats Leading Off Games Prove He’s The Ultimate Tone-Setter

The Boston Red Sox’s lineup poses plenty of problems for opposing pitchers, and those troubles start right away. That’s because Mookie Betts awaits at the top of Boston’s order, and the Red Sox right fielder has been excellent when leading off games this season. After Saturday night’s first-inning homer against the Los Angeles Angels, Betts now is batting .352 with five doubles, six homers and a .626 slugging percentage when taking the Sox’s first at-bat of the game. Red Sox Notes: Boston’s Struggles In Close Games A Cause For Concern

Share this: BOSTON — The mark of any good baseball team is its ability to win all different types of games, from close contests to blowouts. The Red Sox have done just fine this season in the latter category. The former? Not as much. Boston lost another close one to the Detroit Tigers at Fenway Park on Tuesday, rallying on two separate occasions before falling to a 9-8 loss. After this defeat and the team’s 4-2 loss to the Tigers on Monday, the Red Sox’s last five losses have been by two runs or fewer. “We play the game and the situation that’s in front of us,” manager John Farrell said after the game. “Sometimes it doesn’t work in our favor. Sometimes you find yourself in a

Browns’ Josh Gordon Reinstated By NFL, Suspended First Four Games Of Season

by Zack Cox on Mon, Jul 25, 2016 at 2:25PM 1,593 Share this: Josh Gordon has been cleared to resume his NFL career after the league reinstated him Monday on a conditional basis. As part of his reinstatement, the Cleveland Browns wide receiver can report to training camp and play in all preseason games but will be suspended for the first four games of the regular season. He’ll also be allowed to attend team meetings during Weeks 1 through 4 but cannot practice with the team, according to a league statement. “As we discussed at our (July 19) meeting, as commissioner, I want nothing more than to see you turn your circumstances around and succeed,” NFL commissioner Roger Goodell said in a statement to Gordon released by the league. “Countless others including

NCAA Tournament: Hockey East Goes Winless In Friday Early Games (Videos)

The NCAA Men’s Hockey Tournament kicked off Friday, but it was a disappointing day for several hockey east schools. No. 4 seed Northeastern kicked off its first appearance in the tourney since 2009 following a historic 20-1-2 late-season run that ended with them winning the Hockey East Tournament. The Huskies got off to a quick start, too, as freshman Nolan Stevens potted the first goal of the game just 3:07 into the first. But Northeastern’s Cinderella run was cut short soon after, as No. 1 North Dakota scored five unanswered goals en route to an eventual 6-2 win. Things went slightly better for No. 3 Notre Dame, who took No. 2 Michigan to

Patriots TE Rob Gronkowski’s Tweet At Broncos ‘Just All Fun And Games’

FOXBORO, Mass. — New England Patriots tight end Rob Gronkowski said Thursday he was just having fun with the tweet he posted Tuesday in response to the Denver Broncos saying the best way to tackle him is going low. He wasn’t surprised with the attention it drew, though. “No, I was just having a little fun with it, hoping to get a little laughs, which I think it did,” Gronkowski said before practice at Gillette Stadium. “It’s just all fun and games with that.” Here’s the NSFW-ish tweet in question. Gronkowski also was asked if he feels the Broncos have been taunting him with some of the things they have said in the medi...
