Share this: Pre-deadline trades 1, standing pat 0. The Boston Celtics didn’t do anything before Thursday’s NBA trade deadline, while the teams around them in the standings, including the Toronto Raptors, were active. We’ll have to give the teams’ decisions more than one game to find out what the right decision ultimately was, but Friday night belonged to the Raptors. The Kyle Lowry-less (wrist) Raptors gained ground on the Avery Bradley-less (Achilles) Celtics in the race for the Eastern Conference’s No. 2 seed with a 107-97 win at Air Canada Centre. Isaiah Thomas led the C’s with 20 points and was one of four Boston players in double figures, along with Marcus Smart (19 points), Jae Crowder (19 points) and Jaylen Brown (13 points). DeMar DeRozan

NBA Rumors: Celtics, Bulls ‘Exchanged A Bunch Of Proposals’ On Jimmy Butler
Share this: The Boston Celtics made an effort to land a star before Thursday’s NBA trade deadline, but they couldn’t find a deal to their liking. In the end, the C’s made no trades at all. ESPN.com’s Zach Lowe wrote an excellent piece outlining Boston’s deadline action, including its pursuit of Chicago Bulls star forward Jimmy Butler. “Butler was more obtainable for Boston, and the two sides exchanged a bunch of proposals,” Lowe writes. “The particulars are hard to pin down, but suffice it to say this: Boston could not find a package that left both its present and its future in a place that felt comfortable. Give up too much of the present, and you can’t compete with the big boys. Toss every pick into the
Isaiah Thomas ‘Confident’ He Can Pass Russell Westbrook As NBA’s Top Scorer
The Boston Celtics have had a remarkable season thus far, and that is in large part due to Isaiah Thomas. The All-Star guard is averaging an incredible 29.9 points per game this season, good for the second-highest mark in the NBA. Thomas only trails Oklahoma City Thunder superstar Russell Westbrook, who’s averaging 30.9 points per game and has held the top spot for the majority of the season. However, with 26 games remaining in the Celtics’ season, Thomas believes he can overtake Westbrook on the scoring leaderboard, as he told Bill Doyle of the Worcester Telegram & Gazette following the Celtics’ 116-108 victory over the Philadelphia 76ers on ... Celtics Wrap: Isaiah Thomas, Kelly Olynyk Lead C’s To 112-104 Win Over Jazz
Share this: The Boston Celtics should have been tired playing their third game in four nights against a team with the third-ranked defense in the NBA. The C’s, however, shot 59.2 percent from the field en route to a 112-104 win over the Utah Jazz that wasn’t as close as the final score would indicate. Boston got off to a hot start and never let the Jazz get comfortable, leading by double digits for most of the contest before weathering a late run to secure the win. Isaiah Thomas led the Celtics with 29 points, while Kelly Olynyk (19 points, seven rebounds), Gerald Green (16 points) and Al Horford (16 points, nine rebounds) each scored in double figures for the Celtics. Jazz forward
Celtics Notes: Anticipation Growing For Paul Pierce’s Final Game In Boston
Share this: Houston will be the center of the sports world on Sunday for Super Bowl LI between the New England Patriots and Atlanta Falcons, but that won’t be the only big Boston sports event that day. The red-hot Celtics also will play in a matinee contest against the Los Angeles Clippers in what will be Paul Pierce’s last regular-season game in Boston. Ever. Pierce played 15 seasons in Boston, and helped the Celtics win their 17th NBA championship in 2008. That’s something C’s fans never will forget. And while he hasn’t played for the home team at TD Garden since the 2012-13 season, his presence still is felt all throughout the building. “I think he’s highly respected here and around this league,” Celtics
Isaiah Thomas Earns Michael Jordan, Larry Bird Comparison, And It’s Justified
Share this: First, a disclaimer: Isaiah Thomas isn’t the same basketball player as Michael Jordan or Larry Bird — nowhere close, in fact. But that didn’t stop Toronto Raptors coach Dwane Casey from mentioning the Boston Celtics point guard in the same breath as the two NBA legends. “He’s a great player,” Casey told reporters Wednesday, via MassLive.com. “I’m sure if you remember Larry Bird, they went to him a lot in the fourth quarter. Michael Jordan, they went to him a lot in the fourth quarter and back in the day a lot of those great players — Dirk Nowitzki — didn’t get started until later in the game and had to get revved up. And when it’s money time, those players
Celtics Wrap: ‘King In The Fourth’ Isaiah Thomas Leads Boston To Comeback Win
The Boston Celtics looked like they were going to lose once again to the Toronto Raptors, even without an injured DeMar DeRozan playing. Then the fourth quarter happened. The C’s came storming back from a double-digit deficit Wednesday night at TD Garden to top the Raptors 109-104 and take a 1.5 game lead in the Atlantic Division and for the Eastern Conference’s No. 2 seed. Isaiah Thomas, aka “The King in the Fourth,” had 44 points, including 19 fourth-quarter points. Jae Crowder (12 points, eight rebounds), Marcus Smart (10 points) and Al Horford (11 points) were the other C’s in double-figures. Kyle Lowry led the Raptors with 32 po... NESN.com
