Red Sox Notes: Bullpen Comes Up Huge In Boston’s Win Over Blue Jays

Red Sox Notes: Bullpen Comes Up Huge In Boston’s Win Over Blue Jays

The Boston Red Sox bullpen has been heavily criticized throughout the season — and sometimes for good reason. But the Red Sox relievers deserve enormous credit for how they performed in Sunday’s 5-3 win over the Toronto Blue Jays. Drew Pomeranz started the game for Boston but exited in the fifth inning after surrendering three runs without recording an out. From that point on, Hector Velazuez, Matt Barnes, Heath Hembree and Joe Kelly combined to shutout the Jays and secure the win. Velazquez was particularly important, as the righty minimized the damage in the fifth and wound up throwing two scoreless innings. “You’ve got to give cred... NESN.com

Red Sox Starter David Price Felt Good In Saturday’s Outing Vs. Blue Jays

David Price looked sharp in his return to the mound. After getting scratched from his start Wednesday to undergo testing on his hand (which revealed a mild case of carpal tunnel), Price returned to pitch Saturday in the Boston Red Sox’s 5-2 victory over the Toronto Blue Jays. In the start, the lefty struck out six while allowing two runs on five hits with three walks over 5 1/3 innings. After the game, Price indicated that he felt good and kept getting better as he continued throwing. To hear from Price, check out the “NESN Sports Today” video above, presented by People’s United Bank.

Blue Jays Fan Throws Beer Can At Hyun-Soo Kim During AL Wild Card Game

Blue Jays Fan Throws Beer Can At Hyun-Soo Kim During AL Wild Card Game

You shouldn’t throw things at people. It’s just not very nice. But some fan in the outfield bleachers at Rogers Centre on Tuesday during the Toronto Blue Jays-Baltimore Orioles American League Wild Card Game apparently didn’t know that. As Orioles left fielder Hyun-Soo Kim went to catch a fly ball for the third out in the bottom of the seventh inning, someone threw a beer can onto the field, and it came dangerously close to hitting him. As Yahoo! Sports’ Jeff Passan pointed out, Blue Jays fans have a bit of history when it comes to throwing beer at Orioles players. Thumbnail photo via Nick Turchiaro/USA TODAY Sports Images< ... Red Sox Notes: Boston Pulls Into First-Place Tie With Blue Jays After Rout Of A’s

Red Sox Notes: Boston Pulls Into First-Place Tie With Blue Jays After Rout Of A’s

The Boston Red Sox demolished the Oakland Athletics on Saturday, and it earned them a share of first place in the American League East. The Toronto Blue Jays lost to the Tampa Bay Rays 7-5 while the Red Sox cruised to their third straight win in an 11-2 drubbing of the A’s. So, at 76-59, the Red Sox and Jays sit dead-even atop the AL East with the Baltimore Orioles knocking on the back door just two games behind. However, the Red Sox don’t want to celebrate just yet. The Major League Baseball schedule typically loads teams up with division games in September, and that’s no different in 2016. The Red Sox —

Red Sox Wrap: Clay Buchholz Earns Win In Relief As Sox Beat Blue Jays In Extras

by Zack Cox on Sun, May 29, 2016 at 5:28PM 1,691 Another bullpen meltdown Sunday did not doom the Boston Red Sox, who scored two runs in the top of the 11th inning to salvage the finale of their three-game series with the Toronto Blue Jays. Dustin Pedroia drove in the winning run with an RBI ground-rule double, and Clay Buchholz pitched an inning of scoreless relief to pick up the victory in a 5-3 win for Boston. It was the recently converted starter’s first relief appearance since 2008. ...

Red Sox Wrap: Steven Wright Gets No Run Support (Again) In 5-3 Loss To Blue Jays

BOSTON — Steven Wright can’t catch a break. The Red Sox starter has a 2.13 ERA after Saturday’s outing against the Toronto Blue Jays, but he failed to get himself in the win column in Boston’s 5-3 loss. The Red Sox’s normally potent lineup has scored a three runs in Wright’s two starts this season, and they didn’t heat up until the ninth inning in this one. On the other side of ball, Blue Jays starter Aaron Sanchez no-hit the Red Sox through 4 2/3 innings. Boston tried their best to come back in the ninth with a two-run home run by Travis Shaw, but ultimately, it wasn’t enough. Here’s how it all went down. GAM...
