Both youngsters were immediately placed in the starting lineup after being called up from Triple-A Pawtucket, and they made their starts count. Travis and Marrero combined to go 3-for-7 with two RBIs and three runs scored in Boston’s 8-3 victory. After the game, Red Sox manager John Farrell praised the rookies for providing the team with a lift, especially considering the unusual circumstances. Drew Pomeranz Has Strong Outing For Red Sox In Boston’s Win Vs. Astros
Share this: Drew Pomeranz didn’t get the win Friday night, but he pitched well enough to in his team’s 2-1 win at Minute Maid Park. The Boston Red Sox left-hander ran into some trouble in the seventh inning when he allowed a run, but he otherwise had a strong outing. He allowed the one earned run on four hits with three walks and four strikeouts in 6 1/3 innings. Hear what Pomeranz and manager John Farrell said about the left-hander’s performance in the video from “NESN Sports Today,” presented by People’s United Bank, above. More Stories Source link
John Farrell Marvels At Chris Sale’s All-Around Game In Loss To Phillies
Share this: Chris Sale did just about everything he could to help the Boston Red Sox grab a victory over the Philadelphia Phillies on Thursday night. Sale hurled eight innings, only allowing one run on four hits with 10 strikeouts. He even blasted a double in his first game hitting in the 2017 season. But unfortunately for Sale, his efforts weren’t enough, as the Phillies narrowly topped the Sox 1-0. After the game, Red Sox manager John Farrell gushed over Sale’s all-around performance, both on the hill and at the plate. Red Sox Notes: Boston’s Bullpen Comes Up Big For Second Straight Night
Share this: With the Boston Red Sox playing three straight four-hour games and back-to-back extra-inning affairs, the team needed help from its bullpen toward the end of the current homestand. And the bullpen delivered. The Sox’s relievers combined to pitch 11 scoreless innings in Boston’s two wins over the Philadelphia Phillies on Monday and Tuesday, including six frames in Tuesday’s 4-3 12-inning victory at Fenway Park. Boston left-handed starter David Price went the first six innings and allowed three earned runs before turning it over to the bullpen. Robby Scott, Blaine Boyer, Craig Kimbrel, Heath Hembree and Fernando Abad (2-0) then took it from there. There certainly were some close calls for the bullpen, including a deep drive from Maikel Franco that just barely missed
Red Sox Notes: Josh Rutledge’s Glove Might Make Him Regular In Boston’s Lineup
On a night when he got the start because of his defense, Josh Rutledge made the most of his time at the plate. The Boston Red Sox third baseman got the start Saturday night against the Detroit Tigers because he is reliable with the glove, and Pablo Sandoval has struggled with routine plays this season. With Chris Sale on the mound for Boston, it seemed prudent for manager John Farrell to start Rutledge after Sandoval struggled in the field behind lefty Brian Johnson on Friday night. But while Rutledge did his job in the field during the Red Sox’s 11-3 win at Fenway Park on Saturday, he made his presence known with his
John Farrell Explains Craig Kimbrel’s Multi-Inning Outings For Red Sox
Share this: Boston Red Sox closer Craig Kimbrel earned his 17th save of the 2017 Major League Baseball season in Boston’s 5-4 win over the New York Yankees on Tuesday night. Kimbrel recorded the save after Red Sox skipper John Farrell decided to bring the closer into the game with two outs in the bottom of the eighth inning for the fifth time in 2017. To hear Farrell give his explanation for Kimbrel’s long outings, check out the video above from “NESN Sports Today,” presented by People’s United Bank. More Stories Source link
Red Sox Notes: Boston’s Offense Struggles To Produce Hits In Loss To Orioles
Share this: One night after the Boston Red Sox exploded for four runs in the ninth inning in what ultimately was a failed comeback attempt, the Sox couldn’t muster a similar stretch Friday against the Baltimore Orioles. Boston only recorded four hits in Friday’s 3-2 loss at Camden Yards, and it only had one baserunner through five innings. Luckily for the Sox, that baserunner was Pablo Sandoval on a solo home run. But other than that, O’s starter Alec Asher and the Baltimore bullpen mostly stymied the Red Sox’s bats. “Give credit to Asher,” Boston manager John Farrell said, as aired on NESN’s postgame coverage. “… He pitched all four quadrants of the strike zone. He elevated his fastball on guys in our lineup
