Share this: The No. 14 Oklahoma Sooners appeared well on their way to a home blowout loss against No. 3 Ohio State, but Joe Mixon changed that with an electrifying 97-yard kickoff return for a touchdown. The play made it 14-7 Buckeyes at the time, but upon further review, the touchdown never should have counted after Mixon dropped the ball before he reached the end zone. Somehow that was missed by the on-field refs and the replay crew. Well, the Sooners — and Mixon — certainly will take it. Thumbnail photo via Mark D. Red Sox Wrap: Drew Pomeranz Roughed Up Early In 6-3 Loss To Orioles
BOSTON — There were more home runs to be had at Fenway Park on Tuesday, but this time, the visitors did most of the heavy lifting. The Baltimore Orioles jumped out to a five-run lead thanks to a pair of home runs off Red Sox starter Drew Pomeranz and hit a third homer for good measure to hand Boston a 6-3 loss, evening the teams’ three-game series at one game apiece. The Toronto Blue Jays also lost Tuesday, meaning the Red Sox still own a two-game lead over Toronto and Baltimore in the American League East. Here’s how this one went down. GAME IN A WORDShortcoming. Boston’s bullpen did well to stop the ... NESN.com
Josh Norman Gets Into Fight With Redskins Teammate In Loss Vs. Steelers
Washington Redskins cornerback Josh Norman was paid a whole bunch of money this offseason to be The Man in the Redskins secondary. Monday night, he was the man getting in fights and watching an All-Pro wide receiver burn somebody else. That’s Redskins safety David Bruton Jr. who is being pushed away from Norman in the video above. Monday was Norman’s first game in a Redskins uniform after spending the first several years of his career with the Carolina Panthers. Washington was burned by the Pittsburgh Steelers offense all night in a 38-16 “Monday Night Football” blowout. Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger threw for 300 yards... NESN.com
Patriots Lose In Wild Card Round, Tom Brady Retires In CBS ‘Madden NFL 17’ Sim
Share this: Video games are weird sometimes, and going through a franchise or season mode in a sports video game often produces wacky results. CBS Sports ran a simulation of the upcoming 2016 season in the new “Madden NFL 17” video game from EA Sports, and the Atlanta Falcons won the Super Bowl. The New England Patriots won the AFC East division — some things in life are guaranteed, even in Madden — but they had a mediocre 10-6 record and lost in the wild-card round. That playoff loss was to the Steelers, which is totally believable because Pittsburgh is very good and Ben Roethlisberger is one of the league’s top five quarterbacks. What’s stranger is Tom Brady retired after the season, which makes little
Red Sox Notes: Disastrous Sixth Inning Turns Tide For Boston In Loss To Royals
BOSTON — The Red Sox were riding high going into the sixth inning against the Kansas City Royals on Sunday. The club had just turned in a three-run fifth inning to pull ahead of the defending World Series champs, and starter Eduardo Rodriguez, though shaky through the first couple innings, had been getting the Royals to put some weak contact on the ball to hold them at bay from the third on. And then he walked Royals first baseman Eric Hosmer to start the sixth inning. While leadoff walks generally are a bad sign, this one set off a chain reaction. Rodriguez gave up a ground-rule double to designated hitter Kendrys Morales before walking
Red Sox Notes: Dustin Pedroia Keeps Faith In Boston After Brutal Loss To Angels
BOSTON — As far as losses go, it doesn’t get much worse than what happened to the Red Sox on Saturday night. The Los Angeles Angels demolished Boston 21-2 in a game that Red Sox manager John Farrell said he was embarrassed by. The contest was rough for everyone, as the pitching (obviously) imploded, the defense allowed seven unearned runs on a season-high four errors and the offense barely got on the board. But Dustin Pedroia wasn’t ready to give up on his team quite so easily after the game. “Yeah, absolutely we need to get out of (the slump),” the second baseman said. “We need to play better. But going into the year,
John Farrell Holds Team Meeting After Red Sox’s Frustrating Loss To Rays
It appears John Farrell has seen enough. The Boston Red Sox manager witnessed his team suffer an ugly 13-7 loss Monday night to a Tampa Bay Rays team that hadn’t won a game in its previous 11 tries. Starting pitcher Eduardo Rodriguez gave up nine runs in just 2 2/3 innings, the Red Sox didn’t plate a run until the fourth and Boston’s bullpen allowed four runs. Immediately after that debacle at Tropicana Field, Farrell called his team together for a meeting and delivered a simple message. “The bottom line is, (Rodriguez) is capable of more. We’re capable of more,” the Red Sox manager told reporters after the game, as aired on NESN’s...
