Share this: Tim Tebow is wildly popular among Major League Baseball fans. Wait, what? Replica jerseys bearing the name and number of the famous New York Mets minor leaguer were the top-selling shirts on two prominent online retail platforms, according to ESPN’s Darren Rovell. This comes on the first day Tebow’s No. 15 Mets jersey and other merchandise went on sale to the public. “Based on jerseys sold Monday, Tebow’s was shown as the No. 1 best-seller on Fanatics and MLB’s online shop, ahead of stars such as David Ortiz and Kris Bryant,” Rovell writes. Big League teams don’t normally promote the images of minor league players, but a special agreement between Tebow and the jersey manufacturer exists to help break from

David Ortiz Reveals How He Stays Calm Under Pressure In Big Situations
Share this: [embedded content] No one relishes the big moment quite like Big Papi. David Ortiz could be the best clutch hitter in Major League Baseball history, and his ability to come through in key spots stems from his ability to put everything into perspective. The Boston Red Sox designated hitter had a tough upbringing in the Dominican Republic, with violence and poverty being the norm in his neighborhood, so whatever happens on the diamond seems relatively minor in the grand scheme of life. “Let me tell you, man. When I was a kid, I’d be playing in my front yard, in front of my house, and all of a sudden there was a shooting going on, and you were looking at yourself just
Mookie Betts Catches Orioles Napping, Scores On Heads-Up Baserunning Play
Share this: BOSTON — The rest of the league should know by now not to sleep on Mookie Betts, but apparently the Baltimore Orioles haven’t gotten the message. The Red Sox right fielder and American League MVP candidate started Monday night’s game with a bang, ripping a two-RBI double to left field in the first inning. But Betts had another trick up his sleeve when Hanley Ramirez followed him with a base hit. Orioles left fielder Steve Pearce calmly fielded Ramirez’s bloop single, as Betts held at third base. Yet when Betts saw Pearce lazily flip the ball to shortstop J.J. Hardy, he made a break for it, scampering home as a surprised Hardy threw the ball off the mark to the plate. (Click the image below
David Ortiz Gets Fenway Park Curtain Call After Another Historic Homer
Share this: BOSTON — Career-defining Milestones have become a daily occurrence for David Ortiz. The Red Sox’s designated hitter, if you’ll recall, passed Jimmie Foxx on Major League Baseball’s all-time list with a clutch home run Sunday against the Toronto Blue Jays. On Monday, Ortiz continued his historic climb. In the sixth inning of Boston’s contest against the Baltimore Orioles at Fenway Park, the 40-year-old slugger deposited a 1-0 offering from pitcher Oliver Drake deep into the right field bleachers. The blast was Ortiz’s 33rd of the season and 536th of his career, tying him with New York Yankees legend Mickey Mantle for 17th on Major League Baseball’s all-time home runs list. The Fenway Faithful knew it, too, chanting Big Papi’s name until he
Brock Holt Nominated For Roberto Clemente Award, Will Be Honored At Fenway Park
Share this: Brock Holt is getting some recognition for his charity off the field. The Boston Red Sox super utility man is the club’s nominee for the 2016 Roberto Clemente Award, Major League Baseball announced Tuesday. The league nominates a player from each of the 30 teams for the award, which goes to the player who best represents baseball through sportsmanship and community involvement. The Red Sox also will honor Holt with a pregame ceremony at Fenway Park on Sept. 15 for the 15th annual Roberto Clemente Day. Holt has been involved with the Jimmy Fund since joining the Red Sox in 2013 and has been a spokesperson for the charity for the past two years. The 28-year-old became a Jimmy Fund co-captain in 2015
Red Sox Notes: Yoan Moncada Will Get Day Off To ‘Rebuild And Regroup’
Yoan Moncada’s long-awaited Boston Red Sox debut has gotten off to a slow start. The third baseman came into the second half of the Major League Baseball season as the league’s top prospect, so the expectations understandably were high when he made his first appearance on Sept. 2. Moncada was hot, too, going 4-for-10 with a double, an RBI and three runs in his first three games. Then the 21-year-old showed his biggest weakness: strikeouts. Moncada made the jump from Double-A to the bigs despite striking out in 30.9 percent of his at-bats in Portland. And after posting a golden sombrero in Tuesday’s 5-1 win over the San Diego Padres, Moncad... NESN.com
Braves Prospect Dansby Swanson’s First Career Homer Stays Inside The Park
Share this: Dansby Swanson’s first major league home run was anything but conventional. The Atlanta Braves rookie shortstop made his Major League Baseball debut on Aug. 17, and his first round-tripper came Tuesday against the Washington Nationals. But Swanson’s home run never left the yard. Instead, Swanson sent a ball to deep center field, where it took a big bounce off the wall. The speedy 22-year-old was able to stretch it into an inside-the-park home run by running the bases in 14.97 seconds. Swanson was the Arizona Diamondbacks’ No. 1 pick out of Vanderbilt in the 2015 draft. He was one of the players the Braves got in return for pitcher Shelby Miller. Despite Swanson’s run, the Braves lost 9-7 to the Nats. Thumbnail photo via Brad
