The Toledo Walleye of the ECHL plan to be as fashionable on the ice as Don Cherry is off it. The Walleye, an affiliate of the Detroit Red Wins, announced Wednesday on Instagram their plans to wear checkered jerseys Jan. 23. The bold wardrobe strategy is Toledo’s way of paying tribute to Cherry, who’s known as much for his crazy suits as he is for his hockey analysis or his NHL coaching career.
