The Boston Bruins will have their first taste of true competition Monday night. The Bruins will host the rival Montreal Canadiens in their first preseason game. After Sunday’s practice, B’s head coach Bruce Cassidy labeled preseason games as “the best evaluator,” as these contests considerably will help dictate whether a player is worthy of a roster spot. NESN’s Alex Kraemer caught up with two Bruins prospects — Jake DeBrusk and Anders Bjork — after Sunday’s training session. Both players are excited for Monday’s game, and understand how important the preseason is in terms of making the NHL roster. For more on the Bruins,... NESN.com

Friday’s qualifiers: perfect Germany, in-form Lewandowski
Germany a formidable Czech challenge"Even our best possible performance might not be enough to get points," Czech midfielder Bořek Dočkal said of the meeting with Germany. The world champions have won all six games in Group C and could potentially book their place in Russia over the next week. The Czechs are four points behind second-placed Northern Ireland, who they visit on Monday, and any slip against Germany will make victory in Belfast a necessity. Coach Karel Jarolím will have to make changes in central defence as captain Tomáš Sivok and regular partner Jakub Brabec are missing. Czech Republic v Germany
Kyrie Irving Will ‘End Up Getting Traded,’ Former Cavs GM David Griffin Says
The Cleveland Cavaliers have had a tumultuous offseason, to say the least. The three-time defending Eastern Conference champions have dealt with the exit of general manager David Griffin, constant rumors of LeBron James’ eventual exit in 2018 and Kyrie Irving’s trade request. And while Cavs owner Dan Gilbert might claim Irving will be with the team come November, Griffin, who appeared on ESPN’s “The Jump” on Monday, has a different idea. “I think Kyrie is going to end up getting traded,” Griffin said. “I think what Ron was saying is really unfair to Kyrie. I don’t think this is youth and ignorance. This is a guy who handled the situati... NESN.com
Red Sox’s Doug Fister Shines, Keeps Indians Hitters Guessing In Win
It’s only one start, but Doug Fister had his best outing in a Boston Red Sox uniform Monday night. The Sox beat the Cleveland Indians 6-2 at Fenway Park, and the right-hander was a big reason why. He only allowed two earned runs on five hits through 7 2/3 innings. Furthermore, those two runs came in the eighth inning, as he held the Indians scoreless throughout most of his start. Fister also walked two but had five strikeouts. To hear what Fister had to say about his outing Monday, listen to the video above from “NESN Sports Today,” presented by People’s United Bank. ... Lakers Fans Are Super Excited About Fake Rookies Too, Kings’ Video Reveals
Share this: Some Los Angeles Lakers fans don’t even know what excites them. The Sacramento Kings communications team exposed how little Lakers fans know about their roster Monday night in a social-media video. The Kings interviewed Lakers fans during the teams’ recent NBA Summer League game in Las Vegas, asking them what they’re expecting from rookies Sean Carter (Jay-Z) and Ned Stark (from “Game of Thrones). Obviously some Lakers fans just want to support their team, regardless of who is, or isn’t, wearing jerseys. But is learning the names of the real Summer League players too much work for those spending a couple of quarters in the stands? Nevertheless, Lakers fans should be more concerned about real rookies like Lonzo Ball, who won
