Red Sox Wrap: Mookie Betts, Drew Pomeranz Lift Boston To Win Vs. Astros

The Houston Astros have the best record in Major League Baseball, but the Boston Red Sox have Mookie Betts. And Betts was the difference Friday night in Game 1 of the three-game series at Minute Maid Park. Betts’ solo home run in the top of the eighth inning lifted the Red Sox to a 2-1 win over the Astros, and the right fielder also scored the Sox’s other run and saved one with his arm. Drew Pomeranz, meanwhile, had a strong outing on the mound against the best team in baseball. With the win, Boston improves to 38-29, while Houston falls to 45-23. Here’s how it all went down. Mookie Betts Isn’t Afraid Of The Big Stage For Red Sox As Playoffs Loom

Mookie Betts says he doesn’t feel any added pressure from being in a pennant race, and it’s hard not to believe him. Betts launched a two-run home run — his 31st of the season — in the third inning of the Red Sox’ 5-2 win against the Orioles on Monday night in Baltimore. It was the eighth home run that Betts has hit at Camden Yards this season. With the victory, the Red Sox moved four games ahead of Baltimore for first place in the American League East. Following the win, Betts spoke in the visitor’s clubhouse, as seen on NESN’s “Red Sox Final.” Check out the video above for more of his

Dustin Pedroia’s Text Helped Mookie Betts Keep Level Head After Big Night

Dustin Pedroia’s Text Helped Mookie Betts Keep Level Head After Big Night

BOSTON — Dustin Pedroia wasn’t even present for the Red Sox’s game against the Tampa Bay Rays on Monday night, but in typical Pedroia fashion, he found a way to make his presence felt. Monday’s contest produced another magical moment in the Summer of Mookie, as Mookie Betts launched his 30th homer of the season in the second inning of Boston’s eventual 9-4 win at Fenway Park. Reaching the 30-homer plateau certainly is cause for celebration, especially considering the 23-year-old right fielder joined Ted Williams and Tony Conigliaro as the only Red Sox players to hit 30 homers in a season before their 24th birthday. But Pedroia, who wasn’t ... NESN.com

David Ortiz Returns To Red Sox’s Lineup; Same Can’t Be Said For Mookie Betts

Share this: The Boston Red Sox had a few scares Wednesday night against the New York Yankees, although it appears they dodged a bullet for the most part. David Ortiz is right back in the lineup after fouling a ball off his shin, and while Mookie Betts won’t get the start, he’s day to day with calf soreness. Hear what Ortiz and manager John Farrell had to say about the injuries in the video from “Red Sox First Pitch” above. Red Sox Wrap: Mookie Betts’ Heroics Lead Boston To Another Wild Win

Share this: Another night, another dramatic, come-from-behind win for the Boston Red Sox. Monday night’s game against the Seattle Mariners was all about pitching through the first six innings, but both offenses picked up the slack from there. Aaron Hill tied the game with a solo home run in the eighth, and Mookie Betts lifted Boston to a 2-1 win with a solo shot of his own in the top of the ninth. Here’s how it all went down at Safeco Field. GAME IN A WORDEfficient. There wasn’t a lot of offense in this one, but that’s OK. The pitching on both sides was superb, and the game ended in under three hours. IT WAS OVER WHEN …Mookie Betts did Mookie Betts things. Betts put the Red

Mookie Betts’ Stats Leading Off Games Prove He’s The Ultimate Tone-Setter

The Boston Red Sox’s lineup poses plenty of problems for opposing pitchers, and those troubles start right away. That’s because Mookie Betts awaits at the top of Boston’s order, and the Red Sox right fielder has been excellent when leading off games this season. After Saturday night’s first-inning homer against the Los Angeles Angels, Betts now is batting .352 with five doubles, six homers and a .626 slugging percentage when taking the Sox’s first at-bat of the game. Mookie Betts Out Of Red Sox’s Lineup Vs. Twins; Michael Martinez Starts In RF

Share this: BOSTON — Mookie Betts is getting his first day off  for the Red Sox this season. The right fielder exited Friday night’s game against the Minnesota Twins in the top of the fifth inning with knee soreness and is still considered day-to-day going forward. Utility man Michael Martinez will start in right for Betts on Saturday and bat ninth after going 1-for-2 with two great catches as his replacement in Friday’s 2-1 loss. Travis Shaw also is getting a breather in Boston’s third game against the Twins, and Aaron Hill will play third base and bat seventh. Left fielder Brock Holt is the leadoff hitter in Betts’ absence, too. David Price is on the mound for the Red Sox, and he’ll be looking to
