There was an unprecedented scene before the Seattle Seahawks-Tennessee Titans game at LP Field on Sunday. In response to President Donald Trump’s call to “fire” any player who protests during the national anthem, both the Seahawks and Titans released separate statements saying they would not be coming onto the field for the anthem. And as a result, LP Field looked eerily empty before kickoff. But the team’s weren’t the only ones in Nashville, Tenn., to take a stand, as singer Meghan Linsey and her guitarist took a knee at the end of the song. The national federation has instituted a new policy that requires all players representing a U.S. national team, both men’s and women’s, to “stand respectfully” during the national anthem before games. U.S. Soccer’s board of directors unanimously passed the bylaw on Feb. 9. The new policy appears to be in direct response to U.S. women’s star Megan Rapinoe, who knelt during the national anthem before a Team USA friendly in September. Artur Petrosyan has been named as the new coach of Armenia, replacing Varuzhan Sukiasyan, who resigned six days ago, his side having lost their first three European qualifiers by an aggregate score of 8-1.Now 44, Petrosyan was one of Armenia's top players in the late 1990s and early 2000s, amassing 69 caps and scoring 11 goals – a national record which Manchester United FC's Henrikh Mkhitaryan has since broken. He worked as assistant to Bernard Challandes during the Swiss coach's time as Armenia boss, and said of his new appointment: "I am happy to have been entrusted with leading the national side."
