Eddie Lack Stretchered Off Ice After Collision On Red Wings’ OT Goal Vs. Hurricanes

Eddie Lack Stretchered Off Ice After Collision On Red Wings’ OT Goal Vs. Hurricanes

It’s been a tough season for NHL goaltenders from an injury perspective, and the latest netminder to get hurt was Eddie Lack of the Carolina Hurricanes on Monday night. Lack collided with Detroit Red Wings forward Andreas Athanasiou as he scored the game-winning goal in overtime at PNC Arena. There was a lot of contact between the players, and Lack immediately fell to the ice in pain. Lack had to be stretchered off the ice, but the ‘Canes provided an encouraging update after the game. The Red Wings stayed on the ice until Lack exited the ice, which was a class gesture on their part. The Red Wings now are 6-3-1

Brandon Carlo’s Heads-Up Play Keeps Bruins’ Penalty Kill Strong Vs. Canucks

Share this: The Boston Bruins have the second-best penalty kill in the NHL, and they showed that Saturday. The Vancouver Canucks had the man-advantage in the second period at TD Garden, but they didn’t get anything out of it thanks to Bruins defenseman Brandon Carlo. The Canucks were threatening in front of Boston goaltender Anton Khudobin, but when a shot went behind the net, Carlo had the wherewithal to get in front of the puck and in the passing lane, giving the Bruins the puck back. Bruins’ Peter Cehlarik Could Make NHL Debut Saturday Vs. Canucks

Share this: The Boston Bruins have made some pretty big changes of late. Bruce Cassidy took over the reigns as B’s head coach Tuesday after the team parted ways with Claude Julien, and they also called up Peter Cehlarik from the Providence Bruins. Cehlarik has accounted for 33 points in 40 games for the Bruins’ American Hockey League affiliate, and there’s a chance he could make his NHL debut Saturday afternoon against the Vancouver Canucks. To hear from Cehlarik and Cassidy, check out the video above from “NESN Sports Today,” presented by People’s United Bank. More Stories Source link

Brad Marchand Credits Claude Julien For His Development, Maturation

Share this: BOSTON — Brad Marchand, like many of his Bruins teammates, don’t know life in the NHL without Claude Julien as their head coach. That all changed Tuesday. The Bruins fired Julien, midway through his 10th season, replacing him with assistant coach and former Providence Bruins bench boss Bruce Cassidy. The move is something of a last resort for the floundering Bruins, who are on the verge of missing the playoffs for a third consecutive season. Julien is now gone, yes, but the veteran head coach’s impact will be felt for a long time. For all of the flak he took for a perceived inability to help younger players develop, there are plenty of examples on this Bruins roster of players he

Hartford Mayor, Connecticut Governor Invite Islanders To Play At XL Center

Share this: Are the Hartford Whalers coming back to the NHL? Connecticut politicians would like to see that happen. Barclays Center reportedly ended its relationship with the New York Islanders after just two seasons, so the team will need a place to play after their contract is up following the 2018-19 season. And Connecticut governor Dannel Malloy and Hartford mayor Luke Bronin would like that place to be the XL Center in their state’s capital. The Hartford-New Haven television market actually is the largest in the country without a professional sports team in the four major leagues, but the return of the NHL is a long shot. The Whalers left town and became the Carolina Hurricanes in 1997 in part because of low

Berkshire Bank Hockey Night In New England: Projected Bruins-Blues Lineups

Share this: The Boston Bruins continue their four-game road trip Tuesday night in St. Louis against a very good Blues team. One of St. Louis’ biggest strengths is its special teams. The Blues rank seventh in power-play percentage and fifth in penalty killing. This Blues squad also has plenty of offensive firepower and ranks ninth in goals scored per game. They are led by first-ling winger Vladimir Tarasenko, who ranks fourth in the NHL in scoring with 43 points and fifth in goals with 20. The Bruins don’t have the skill and forward depth to win a high-scoring game with the Blues, so the B’s need a strong performance from goaltender Tuukka Rask. He’s 3-2-3 with a .919 save percentage and a 2.32 GAA
