Red Sox Notes: David Price’s Struggles Continue Against Yankees In Sunday’s Loss

The New York Yankees never have been kind to David Price. Going into Sunday night’s matchup, the Boston Red Sox starter made four career appearances against the American League East rival, posting an 0-4 record while giving up five home runs. His luck certainly didn’t change as the lefty was tagged for eight runs (all earned) while giving up a career-high five home runs in the Red Sox’s 11-1 loss to the Yankees. His ERA against New York spiked to 10.44 and he has given up a whopping 10 home runs over 25 innings pitched since he’s been with Boston. Price’s eight earned runs tied his career high and is something he’s done four

Red Sox Notes: Tremendous Display Of Resilience Paves Way To Win Vs. Astros

It has been a chaotic couple of days for the Boston Red Sox. On top of the fact that in the past two days alone Mookie Betts and Dustin Pedroia have landed on the 10-day disabled list, the Sox visibly had been overwhelmed by the Houston Astros. The reigning World Series champs cruised to victory in the first two contests of the four-game set at Minute Maid Park. And in that stretch, Drew Pomeranz’s struggles continued, while Chris Sale was knocked around for the second straight outing. At points Saturday, it looked like it was going to be more of the same the Sox. But thanks to a nice show of resilience, Boston resolve

Red Sox Notes: Mookie Betts Shines In Boston’s 7-4 Loss To Orioles

Even in a loss, Mookie Betts still finds a way to produce. The Boston Red Sox right fielder went 3-for-5 with two RBIs and a run thanks to his 14th blast of the season in the 7-4 loss to the Baltimore Orioles on Friday night at Fenway Park. “I’m not trying to be a power hitter,” Betts said after the game, as seen on NESN’s postgame coverage. “I work hard every day … but being consistent is the main thing.” Well, the power is most certainly there for the 25-year-old. He now has 59 hits on the season with 14 home runs and 30 RBIs. Betts is tied with O’s shortstop Manny Machado for

Red Sox Notes: Bullpen Comes Up Huge In Boston’s Win Over Blue Jays

The Boston Red Sox bullpen has been heavily criticized throughout the season — and sometimes for good reason. But the Red Sox relievers deserve enormous credit for how they performed in Sunday’s 5-3 win over the Toronto Blue Jays. Drew Pomeranz started the game for Boston but exited in the fifth inning after surrendering three runs without recording an out. From that point on, Hector Velazuez, Matt Barnes, Heath Hembree and Joe Kelly combined to shutout the Jays and secure the win. Velazquez was particularly important, as the righty minimized the damage in the fifth and wound up throwing two scoreless innings. “You’ve got to give cred... NESN.com

Red Sox Notes: Craig Kimbrel Becomes Youngest Pitcher To Reach 300 Saves

Craig Kimbrel just etched himself into baseball history. The Boston Red Sox closer became the youngest pitcher in Major League Baseball history to record 300 saves at 29 years, 342 days old when he recorded his ninth save of the season in Saturday’s 6-5 win over the Texas Rangers on Saturday night. Along with being the youngest, Kimbrel also is the fastest pitcher to reach the milestone. To put just how dominant he’s been over the course of his career into perspective, the right-hander has had 330 save opportunities in his career. His 90.9 save percentage is the highest in the history of the game with a minimum of 250 save opportunities. ... NESN.com

Celtics Notes: Boston-Houston Would Be Must-See NBA Finals Matchup

They say styles make fights, and the two games between the Boston Celtics and Houston Rockets have been nothing short of box office material. And while an NBA Finals matchup might not be likely, with the Golden State Warriors and Cleveland Cavaliers lurking, it would be nothing short must-see TV. The Celtics took Round 1 after overcoming a 26-point deficit thanks to a couple late miscues from James Harden, but the Rockets delivered some payback Saturday night at Toyota Center. The game was a seesaw affair, with neither team leading by more than eight at any point in the contest. Boston held the upper hand for most of the second half, l... NESN.com

Celtics Notes: Boston Taking Care Of Business Upon Return From Break

There are no two ways around it: the Boston Celtics were limping into the NBA All-Star break. The Celtics dropped three straight games leading into the star-studded spectacle in Los Angeles, a product of the sluggish play Boston demonstrated in the first few weeks of February. But it’s safe to say the C’s made the most of their eight days off. The Celtics returned from the All-Star break with back-to-back road victories over the Detroit Pistons and New York Knicks, and Monday, the green extended its win streak to three by topping the Memphis Grizzlies 109-98 at TD Garden. The schedule makers clearly lent the Celtics a hand in their time o... NESN.com
