The Boston Red Sox overcame a three-run ninth-inning deficit to win one of the more exciting games of the season, 7-5, over the AL East rival New York Yankees. Hanley Ramirez finished the rally with a monstrous, three-run homer to send the Red Sox home with the walk-off win that might just be the September spark Boston needed. Red Sox designated hitter David Ortiz was asked about the importance of the win after the game, as seen on NESN’s “Red Sox Final.” Check out what he had to say about it in the video above. Red Sox Vs. Rays Lineup: David Ortiz Gets Day Off For Series Finale
The Boston Red Sox are switching up their lineup for their series finale against the Tampa Bay Rays. David Ortiz will get a day off Thursday, which is unsurprising given the Red Sox are playing an afternoon game after a night game. Hanley Ramirez will return to the lineup as the designated hitter and bat in the cleanup spot. Travis Shaw will take Ramirez’s post at first base and bat eighth, while Aaron Hill will slot in at third base and bat seventh. Chris Young also will start in left field and bat sixth after Andrew Benintendi injured his knee during Wednesday night’s game. Drew Pomeranz is on the mound for the Red

David Ortiz Returns To Red Sox’s Lineup; Same Can’t Be Said For Mookie Betts
Share this: The Boston Red Sox had a few scares Wednesday night against the New York Yankees, although it appears they dodged a bullet for the most part. David Ortiz is right back in the lineup after fouling a ball off his shin, and while Mookie Betts won’t get the start, he’s day to day with calf soreness. Hear what Ortiz and manager John Farrell had to say about the injuries in the video from “Red Sox First Pitch” above. Thumbnail photo via Bob DeChiara/USA TODAY Sports Images More Stories Source link
Red Sox Notes: David Ortiz X-Rays Negative; Dave Dombrowski Says He’s Day-To-Day
Share this: BOSTON — Fenway Park was holding its collective breath Wednesday when David Ortiz went down in the ninth inning against the New York Yankees. The Red Sox slugger fouled a 99-mph pitch from Yankees reliever Dellin Bentances off his shin and knelt on the ground in pain before being helped off the field by manager John Farrell and a trainer. Luckily for Boston, though, the X-rays and fluoroscans on Big Papi came back negative. President of baseball operations Dave Dombrowski went so far as to say Ortiz is “fine” and will be considered day-to-day. He said Ortiz was walking around on his own power and feeling better as he did so. Still, Ortiz’s teammates were well aware of how bad it would have
Red Sox Notes: David Ortiz Thinks Andrew Benintendi Can Be ‘Superstar’
Share this: Things aren’t great for the Boston Red Sox in the present, but here’s a silver lining: The future looks pretty darn bright. The Red Sox’s 8-5 loss to the Los Angeles Dodgers on Sunday — their fourth defeat in six games — overshadowed a game to remember by rookie outfielder Andrew Benintendi. Benintendi was a one-man offensive wrecking crew in just his third major league start, going 3-for-4 while recording a trio of promising firsts. The 22-year-old got things started early, driving a low fastball the other way in the third inning for his first hit and getting a great jump on Dodgers pitcher Brandon McCarthy for his first career steal. Benintendi pulled the ball in his next at-bat, lacing a two-out single
Vin Scully, Dodgers Honor David Ortiz With Touching Video Tribute
Share this: David Ortiz already has received plenty of recognition from various Major League Baseball teams during his final season, but the club he visited Friday has something no one else has: Vin Scully. The legendary Los Angeles Dodgers announcer took the reins when Ortiz and the Boston Red Sox came to town for a three-game series, honoring the slugger with an awesome video tribute that recalled Ortiz’s childhood in the Dominican Republic and his contributions to the Red Sox. Ortiz also was joined on the field by former teammates Nomar Garciaparra, Adrian Gonzalez and Dave Roberts, who presented him with a $10,000 check to the David Ortiz Children’s Fund. It’s going to be hard for other teams to top that without Scully’s voice. Thumbnail photo
