Few teams have seen less of David Ortiz throughout his career than the Los Angeles Dodgers. But that didn’t stop the club from giving him a very special farewell ceremony Friday. The Dodgers brought surrounded the Boston Red Sox slugger with some old friends ahead of the teams’ three-game series, which will mark Ortiz’s final appearance at Dodger Stadium. Joining Big Papi on the field before the game were Dodgers first baseman Adrian Gonzalez, Dodgers manager Dave Roberts and Dodgers TV color commentator Nomar Garciaparra — all of whom spent time as Ortiz’s teammates in Boston. The ceremony was narrated by legendary Dodgers play-by-play... NESN.com

Red Sox Vs. Angels Lineup: David Ortiz Gets Night Off Vs. Los Angeles
Share this: The expectation always was that David Ortiz would sit one of the games against the Los Angeles Angels this weekend. It turns out that day will be Saturday. Ortiz will start the evening on the bench as the Red Sox face left-hander Hector Santiago at Angel Stadium of Anaheim. Hanley Ramirez will shift over to designated hitter, and Travis Shaw will take his place at first base. That means Aaron Hill will start at third base, while Jackie Bradley Jr. will bat in Big Papi’s usual cleanup spot. Brock Holt also will start the game on the bench, as Bryce Brentz will man left field instead. The Red Sox rebounded from a heartbreaking loss against the Angels in Game 1 of their four-game
David Ortiz Wore 2013 Boston Marathon Medal During Red Sox-Twins Game
by Zack Cox on Mon, Jul 25, 2016 at 10:55AM 2,493 Share this: David Ortiz’s wardrobe for Sunday’s Boston Red Sox-Minnesota Twins game at Fenway Park included a unique accessory. Ortiz, who did not play in the game, was spotted in the dugout wearing a 2013 Boston Marathon medal. ‘‘A friend of mine that ran the marathon gave it to me,’’ the Red Sox designated hitter told reporters, via The Associated Press. ‘‘I wear my jewelry on different days. I just put it on.’’ Ortiz was a major figure in Boston in the days following the 2013 marathon bombing, delivering his immediately iconic “This is our (expletive) city” speech before the first Red Sox home following the attack. With Ortiz sitting out Sunday’s game, Hanley Ramirez filled in as Boston’s
Ken Griffey Jr. Thinks David Ortiz ‘Absolutely’ Is A Hall Of Famer
Share this: David Ortiz’s Hall of Fame chances have been a topic of debate long before the Boston Red Sox slugger announced the 2016 season would be his last, but Big Papi got an endorsement from one of the greatest baseball players of all time. Ken Griffey Jr. was inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame on Sunday with former New York Mets catcher Mike Piazza, but in his news conference Saturday, Griffey took a moment to talk about Ortiz. The two were part of the Seattle Mariners, who drafted Ortiz, briefly, but it was enough time for Griffey to get a good look at the future Red Sox star. “I got a chance to see him young,” Griffey said, per ESPN.com. “He
David Ortiz Shares Questionable Retirement Ideas In ‘SportsCenter’ Commercial
David Ortiz might be in for a rough 2017. The Boston Red Sox slugger stars in a new “SportsCenter” commercial on ESPN in which he brainstorms some ideas for post-retirement business ventures with teammates David Price and Eduardo Rodriguez. And with suggestions like “Papi’s Fritas” and “Big Puppy,” Ortiz’s starting pitcher buddies can’t help but wonder if retirement might make him go a little crazy. Ortiz has made just a little bit of money throughout his 19-season career — Spotrac estimates his total cash earnings at around $ 160 million — so we’re sure he’ll be just fine even if “Papisicles” don’t work out for him. ...
Pete Rose Says David Ortiz Isn’t A Hall Of Famer Because Of Hit Total
Most people would agree that David Ortiz is a future Hall of Famer. The Boston Red Sox’s designated hitter is in his 20th and final big league season and is putting up the best numbers of his career. He’s leading the league in doubles, on-base percentage, slugging percentage and OPS. No player has ever led baseball in those categories during their final season. Given his terrific final year, his career numbers are getting better by the day: .286 average, 2,400 hits, 618 doubles, 525 home runs, 1,713 RBIs and a .931 OPS. Hall of Fame worthy, right? Not according to Pete Rose. MLB’s all-time hits leader, now a FOX analyst but still ban...
Red Sox Notes: David Ortiz, David Price Enter All-Star Break With A Bang
BOSTON — David Ortiz always has had a flair for the dramatic, so it was only fitting that he’d do something special to cap off the first half of his magical 2016 campaign. The Red Sox designated hitter delivered the goods again Sunday, hitting a two-run, opposite-field home run off Tampa Bay Rays pitcher Jake Odorizzi to help lift Boston to a 4-0 win at Fenway Park. Big Papi’s towering blast gave him 22 homers at the All-Star break, an astonishing achievement for a 40-year-old DH who tallied a total of 23 homers during an injury-riddled 2012 season. Four years later, Ortiz somehow is playing some of the best baseball of his career, entering the...
