The invoice for parking charges at Starved Rock State Park died within the Illinois Senate Thursday, by one vote. SB1310, sponsored by Sen. Sue Rezin (R-Morris), would have allowed the Illinois Department of Natural Resources to have parking charges at Starved Rock SP, essentially the most visited park in Illinois. Part of the explanation for it dying–the exclussion of LaSalle County residents from paying–is legit. But I feel we have to have a broader-based dialogue on park charges and hammer it out as a state-wide difficulty, not only for Starved Rock SP. Sculpture Artist Recreating City Scenes Inside Old New York Parking Meters
Share this: Because people naturally associate parking meters with spending money, even the site of them is off-putting. Apparently, however, all it takes is some aesthetic modifications to allow you to see them in an entirely new light. Artist Conrad Stojak was born and raised in New York, and now, he’s making some of the most quintessentially New York sculptures imaginable. Stojak began buying old parking meters from the city and using them to house sculptures of scenes that relate to life in the “Big Apple,” such as a miniature versions of a subway car and the Flatiron Building. There’s something eerie about walking by yourself to your car at night in a parking lot. So imagine if you found a random shirt wrapped meticulously around your windshield wipers once you got there. That’s what recently happened to Ashely Hardacre as she was leaving work at a mall in Flint, Mich., WPVI-TV reports.
