Dont’a Hightower, Danny Amendola Among Patriots’ Stars In Win Over Jets
EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. — The New England Patriots proved one thing Sunday: They can win ugly. Playing one of the worst teams in the NFL, the Patriots beat the New York Jets just 17-16 as they had trouble moving the ball on offense and stopping the Jets’ rushing attack. The Patriots’ offensive line allowed four sacks to the Jets as quarterback Tom Brady was getting beat up all game. With all the negatives out of the way, here are this week’s stars of the game: DANNY AMENDOLAAmendola didn’t replace Julian Edelman, who was out with a concussion, but he filled in admirably as the Patriots’ slot/Z receiver. Amendola caught eight passes on 11 targets for 63 yards. He
Guy Fieri Wants To Make ‘Tom Brady Sandwich’ To Honor Patriots QB
Guy Fieri is a self-proclaimed Oakland Raiders fan, but apparently his favorite quarterback doesn’t wear silver and black. The “Food Network” personality and restaurant owner recently joined USA TODAY’s For the Win for an NFL-themed Q&A session. Fieri was grilled on a wide range of topics, from his thoughts on NFL team cocktails (Fireball and apple juice for the Seattle Seahawks) to who could pull off his signature hair look (Jon Gruden). Fieri’s most interesting response, though, came when he was asked what sandwich he would make to honor an NFL player. “The Tom Brady sandwich would be a prosciutto with a nice Buffalo mozzarella, on a crispy baguette with a little fresh basil,” Fieri
Patriots Grab ‘NFL’s Best Team’ Crown From Broncos After Commanding Win
FOXBORO, Mass. — The only reason that the New England Patriots’ 43-21 win over the Denver Broncos seemed even remotely close was because Peyton Manning was on the other side of the huddle. There’s always a chance that Manning can come back — even down three scores with 6:13 to go in the fourth quarter, Patriots fans were halfway on their seats thinking, “Is it safe? Is it safe to beat the traffic? Can he come back?” Let’s be fair, though. The Patriots walloped the reigning AFC champs, and against any other quarterback, their 27-7 lead at the half would have seemed extremely safe, as it turned out to be. Since the Broncos were considered the favorites
Patriots Will Look to Slow Surging Colts During Divisional Round of Playoffs at Gillette (Video)
The New England Patriots will host the Indianapolis Colts in the divisional round of the playoffs on Saturday night. The Colts, who were able to overcome a 28-point deficit to pull off the unbelievable 45-44 win against the Kansas City Chiefs in the wild-card round, will look to build off that momentum when they come into Gillette this weekend. With Andrew Luck at the helm, the Pats will be tasked with slowing down the Indy offense and making sure they find a way to contain T.Y. Hilton. Offensively, New England will look to take advantage of the Colts defense that ranks 26th in rushing yards allowed. The tandem of LeGarrette Blount and Stevan Ridley will be key for the Patriots success. Check out the above
Patriots Probably Won’t Rest Regulars Sunday With Chance to Be No. 1 Playoff Seed (Video)
Who remembers the last week of the 2009 season? In a matchup against the Texans in Houston, Wes Welker tore his MCL and ACL on a non-contact play, missing the playoffs that season. That’s the kind of injury the Patriots will have to consider going into a Week 17 game against the Dolphins. Though New England is assured of a playoff spot, they could still earn a Round 1 bye or a No. 1 seed, so there’s still a lot to play for. But that being said, there’s always the threat of injury with the playoffs in the bag. Whether the Pats will rest anyone on Sunday was just one of several subjects touched on by Matt Chatham, Kevin Faulk and Dale
