Bill Belichick Distinguishes Between Dion Lewis, James White’s Patriots Roles

Share this: FOXBORO, Mass. — Though it’s easy to stereotype James White and Dion Lewis as similar players, because they’re both undersized running backs, New England Patriots head coach Bill Belichick sees them differently. That’s why Lewis didn’t overtake all of White’s snaps when the running back returned from multiple offseason knee surgeries. White is the next in line after Kevin Faulk and Shane Vereen as the Patriots’ sub-back, while Belichick compared Lewis to Danny Woodhead because of their ability to run the ball. Both roles are important in the Patriots’ offense. White is asked to pass block and run routes as a receiver more frequently, while Lewis brings more unpredictability to the offense because of his versatility as a runner and pass-catcher. Bill Belichick Won’t Commit To Keeping Cyrus Jones At Punt Returner

by Zack Cox on Tue, Dec 13, 2016 at 12:10PM 1,627 Share this: Bill Belichick’s Tuesday morning conference call began with a series of questions about New England Patriots rookie Cyrus Jones, who’d committed another costly special-teams error the previous night. Jones allowed a punt to bounce off his foot during Monday night’s game against the Baltimore Ravens and then failed to recover it, giving Baltimore the ball at New England’s 2-yard line. The Ravens scored two plays later, kicking off a second-half comeback that ultimately fell just short in a 30-23 Patriots victory at Gillette Stadium. It was the latest in a long line of mistakes by Jones, who now has five fumbles in nine games as a first-year pro. During the call, Belichick

Mitch Moreland Chose Red Sox For Environment, ‘Gritty Group Of Guys’

Share this: Mitch Moreland isn’t worried about fitting in with the Boston Red Sox. The former Texas Rangers first baseman agreed to a one-year contract with the Red Sox on Tuesday worth a reported $5.5 million. And Moreland said in a conference call on Thursday that he chose Boston for the players and the atmosphere. “I had a couple options, but really just the whole fact that it’s a place I really wanted to play,” Moreland said, via WEEI.com. “Getting the opportunity to come here and be a part of that winning environment, being a part of a winning environment and having a chance to go out and play for a championship is huge to me personally. This is a great option.” The Red

MLB Rumors: Could Nationals Trade For Chris Sale And Andrew McCutchen?

Share this: The Washington Nationals have a win-now roster and are looking to hit an offseason home run with the MLB Winter Meetings set to begin Monday in Maryland. The Nats have been linked in trade rumors involving Pittsburgh Pirates outfielder Andrew McCutchen and Chicago White Sox pitcher Chris Sale in recent weeks, but USA Today’s Bob Nightengale tweeted Sunday night that Washington wants to acquire both players. NFL Suspends Bills Tackle 10 Games For Marijuana, Which He Uses For Crohn’s

Share this: It’s no secret that the NFL has a strict marijuana policy, but it’s costing one player his ability to live his everyday life without pain while still remaining on the field. Buffalo Bills offensive tackle Seantrel Henderson has Crohn’s disease, a chronic inflammation of the gastrointestinal tract that’s extremely painful. Henderson had two-and-a-half feet of his gastrointestinal tract removed in January and uses medical marijuana to deal with the pain. But the NFL doesn’t give out any therapeutic use exemptions for marijuana and handed Henderson a 10-game suspension Tuesday. It’s a complicated issue because Henderson and his agent know he’s not allowed to use marijuana, but there’s nothing else he can take. He already was suspended four games for it this season.

Why Eric Dickerson Claims Rams Banned Him From Sideline During Games

Eric Dickerson arguably is the greatest player in Los Angeles Rams history, but the team apparently wants nothing to do with him. During a radio appearance Monday morning on 750 AM in Los Angeles, the Hall of Fame running back claimed the Rams reached out to him specifically and told him not to attend the team’s home games. “We joke about it on the show, but I did get a call from upper management,” Dickerson said, as transcribed by For the Win. “Somebody from upper management called me and said I make the players feel uncomfortable about some of the stuff I’ve said on the radio. And they don’t want me on the

Bill Belichick Praises Struggling Jets Darrelle Revis, Ryan Fitzpatrick

FOXBORO, Mass. — It hasn’t been a great 2016 season for two veteran players being paid big money by the New York Jets. Cornerback Darrelle Revis, who’s making $ 17 million this season, hasn’t been his usual lockdown self. Just check the New York Daily News’ Manish Mehta’s Twitter timeline if you’re skeptical. Quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick, who’s on the books for $ 12 million, has been benched twice — once for Geno Smith and again for Bryce Petty. Don’t tell Patriots head coach Bill Belichick about those players’ struggles, however, as New England is preparing to play the Jets on Sunday. “Fitzpatrick is averaging 26 po... NESN.com
