Share this: Week 1 of the college football season kicks off this weekend, and the best players in the nation will begin building their Heisman Trophy cases. Finishing the seasons strong often makes a huge difference with Heisman voters — recency bias is a real thing. That said, getting off to a good start is important as well, especially against ranked non-conference opponents on national television. Here are our predictions for the 2016 Heisman Trophy finalists. 1. Deshaun Watson, QB, Clemson (Winner)Watson was incredible last season in leading the Tigers to within five points of a national title. He threw for 4,104 yards, 35 touchdowns and 13 interceptions. That’s amazing in its own right, but he also ran for 1,105 yards with 12 rushing touchdowns. If

Share this: Third quarter, 6:49, Patriots 9-3: More ugliness on offense for the Patriots. Garoppolo and the Patriots just went three-and-out again. Garoppolo is 9 of 15 for 57 yards so far, and his performance has been worse than the numbers appear. Third quarter, 7:49, Patriots 9-3: The Panthers finally got on the board, and it was while Cam Newton was playing against the Patriots’ second-team defense. The Panthers had to settle for a field goal after incompletions from Newton on second and third down. Third quarter, 11:51, Patriots 9-0: The Patriots strung together a seven-play drive but turned the ball over on downs after LeGarrette Blount couldn’t pick up a yard on fourth down. Report: Tom Brady To Play Vs. Panthers; Unknown Which Patriots QB Will Start
Share this: The New England Patriots officially have the lamest, most minor quarterback controversy in history. Tom Brady will play in the Patriots’ third preseason game against the Carolina Panthers, CSNNE.com’s Tom E. Curran reported Thursday, but it’s unknown if Brady or Jimmy Garoppolo will start Friday’s game. It’s also unclear how long and for how many series Brady will play. Brady missed the Patriots’ first two preseason games to attend memorial services for a family member and because he suffered a cut on his thumb. Garoppolo started both of those games. Brady traveled to Carolina with the rest of his teammates Thursday, and he was clamoring to play this week during a news conference. It’s likely Garoppolo will receive more snaps than Brady, and
Patriots Roster Breakdown: Who’s A Lock, On The Bubble Nearing Cutdowns
Share this: The New England Patriots made roster projections a lot easier this week. They released seven players, bringing their 90-man roster down to 83 and opened up potential spots because of injuries to Dion Lewis and Sebastian Vollmer. With the 75-man cutdown less than a week away and the 53-man deadline in just nine days, let’s categorize who’s a lock, an odd-on favorite for a roster spot and on the bubble. And just a quick note: I don’t use locks loosely. QUARTERBACKLocks: Tom Brady, Jimmy Garoppolo, Jacoby Brissett Odds-on: None On the bubble: None— The Patriots never brought in a fourth quarterback, so there’s no one to release at this point. It will be interesting to see if the Patriots sign a quarterback cut over the next two
Vikings Quarterback Suffered Ankle Injury While Breaking Into Own Home
Taylor Heinicke might want to invest in Netflix. The Minnesota Vikings backup quarterback revealed Thursday that he suffered a leg injury a couple of weeks ago while trying to break into his own home following a late-night trip to the movies. “I was locked out of my house after a late-night movie,’’ Heinicke told the St. Paul Pioneer Press. “I came back and there’s no one home, and I’m trying to nudge the door a little. It was one of those double doors. I thought it just needed a little nudge. “Me and my buddy were getting it going a little, but when I put my foot to the door, my foot kind
Report: Patriots Host Free-Agent Quarterback Ricky Stanzi
The New England Patriots, in search of a third quarterback for the offseason workout program and training camp, hosted Ricky Stanzi on a free-agent visit Wednesday, ESPN’s Mike Reiss reported Wednesday. Stanzi was selected in the fifth round of the 2011 NFL Draft by the Kansas City Chiefs out of Iowa. The 6-foot-4, 228-pound quarterback has also spent time with the Jacksonville Jaguars, Houston Texans, New York Giants and Detroit Lions. He hasn’t attempted a regular-season NFL pass. The Patriots have quarterbacks Tom Brady and Jimmy Garoppolo on their current roster. They typically carry a third quarterback until the final cutdown period af...
Colts To Retire Peyton Manning’s No. 18, Build Statue Of Quarterback
It didn’t take long for the Indianapolis Colts to celebrate Peyton Manning’s career. Colts owner Jim Irsay announced Friday the team will retire Manning’s No. 18 and build a statue of the quarterback outside Lucas Oil Stadium. Manning, who announced his retirement earlier this month, spent 14 years with the Colts before finishing his career with the Denver Broncos. “It was my honor and privilege to play for this organization for 14 years,” Manning told reporters Friday. “I’ll always be a Colt.” Manning is coming off a Super Bowl win with the Broncos. He had an impressive four-year run with Denver to c...
