Rabid bat present in Beverly: officers

City officers are warning Beverly residents a few rabid bat discovered Wednesday within the South Side neighborhood. The bat was discovered within the 9900 block of South Hoyne Avenue, Ald. Matt O’Shea mentioned in an electronic mail to 19th Ward residents. The Illinois State Public Health Laboratory performed a rabies examination on the bat and decided it to have the virus, O’Shea mentioned. O’Shea is advising pet homeowners to vaccinate their pets and preserve them on leashes when outdoors the house. Anyone who sees a bat is requested to name 311 to report it to animal management.
