Drew Pomeranz’s incredible 2017 season continued Friday. The Red Sox left-hander improved to 15-5 on the season, as he only allowed two earned runs on two hits with two walks while striking out seven in six innings. Thanks to that effort, Boston topped the Tampa Bay Rays 9-3 at Fenway Park. Hear Pomeranz talk about his outing in the video from “Red Sox Final,” presented by People’s United Bank, above. Red Sox Look To Stay Hot In Road Matchups Against Rays, Yankees
The Boston Red Sox are riding high as they hit the road for a five-game trip against a pair of division foes. The Red Sox posted a 7-2 record on their latest homestand, capped off by a 6-3 win at Fenway Park to complete a four-game series sweep of the Chicago White Sox. Boston is playing its best baseball at the right time, and it will need to keep it that way during the upcoming road trip. The Sox take on the Tampa Bay Rays for a quick two-game series starting Tuesday, followed by a three-game set in New York against the Yankees. And with the regular season nearing the home stretch, the
Red Sox Vs. Rays Lineup: Chris Sale Starts; Hanley Ramirez Remains Out
Chris Sale will look to help return the Boston Red Sox to winning ways. The Red Sox ace will start against the Tampa Bay Rays on Saturday afternoon at Fenway Park in the second of the teams’ three-game series. Sale and Co. will look to preserve their slight lead over the Rays in the American League East standings with a victory. Tampa defeated Boston 5-4 on Friday, punishing the hosts for their early defensive errors. Red Sox manager John Farrell has opted to start Deven Marrerro at third base in order to provide more security on the corner and bat ninth in the lineup. Hanley Ramirez will sit out his third consecutive game
Red Sox Close Road Trip With Win Before Heading Back Home To Face Rays
The Boston Red Sox are headed back to Fenway Park, although not for very long. The Sox wrapped up a six-game road trip with a 4-1 win Thursday over the Milwaukee Brewers. Hear a preview of the Red Sox’s series against their American League East foe in the video above from “NESN Sports Today,” presented by People’s United Bank. ... NESN.com
Red Sox Vs. Rays Lineup: Drew Pomeranz Seeks To Build On Strong 2017 Debut
Drew Pomeranz will be looking for an encore performance on Easter Sunday. The Boston Red Sox left-hander will make his second start of the season Sunday at Fenway Park against the Tampa Bay Rays. Pomeranz dazzled in his first outing, limiting the Baltimore Orioles to one run over six innings while striking out six in Boston’s eventual 8-1 win. The 28-year-old had considerable success against the Rays last season, posting a 3.03 ERA over three starts while striking out 23 batters in 17 2/3 innings pitched. Christian Vazquez will start behind the plate, catching Pomeranz and batting ninth. The rest of the Red Sox’s lineup remains unchanged from... NESN.com
Red Sox Vs. Rays Lineup: David Ortiz Gets Day Off For Series Finale
The Boston Red Sox are switching up their lineup for their series finale against the Tampa Bay Rays. David Ortiz will get a day off Thursday, which is unsurprising given the Red Sox are playing an afternoon game after a night game. Hanley Ramirez will return to the lineup as the designated hitter and bat in the cleanup spot. Travis Shaw will take Ramirez’s post at first base and bat eighth, while Aaron Hill will slot in at third base and bat seventh. Chris Young also will start in left field and bat sixth after Andrew Benintendi injured his knee during Wednesday night’s game. Drew Pomeranz is on the mound for the Red
John Farrell Holds Team Meeting After Red Sox’s Frustrating Loss To Rays
It appears John Farrell has seen enough. The Boston Red Sox manager witnessed his team suffer an ugly 13-7 loss Monday night to a Tampa Bay Rays team that hadn’t won a game in its previous 11 tries. Starting pitcher Eduardo Rodriguez gave up nine runs in just 2 2/3 innings, the Red Sox didn’t plate a run until the fourth and Boston’s bullpen allowed four runs. Immediately after that debacle at Tropicana Field, Farrell called his team together for a meeting and delivered a simple message. “The bottom line is, (Rodriguez) is capable of more. We’re capable of more,” the Red Sox manager told reporters after the game, as aired on NESN’s...
