Red Sox’s Rick Porcello Looks To Get Back To Cy Young Form Vs. Orioles

Share this: Boston Red Sox pitcher Rick Porcello has not started the 2017 season the way he may have wanted to, but he feels as if he is getting closer to his Cy Young form from just a year ago. Porcello said on Sunday that his sinker/4-seam combination is feeling “solid” and the next step will be to cut down on the walks going forward. Porcello will be on the hill for the Red Sox on Monday night against the Baltimore Orioles. For more on Porcello check out the video above from “Red Sox Gameday Live,” presented by DCU. Red Sox Notes: Rick Porcello Is ‘Back In Control’ Despite Loss Vs. Yankees

Red Sox Notes: Rick Porcello Is ‘Back In Control’ Despite Loss Vs. Yankees

Boston Red Sox starter Rick Porcello is one loss away from matching his season total from 2016. The 2016 American League Cy Young winner took another tough-luck loss Wednesday night against the New York Yankees. Porcello allowed three runs (two earned) on five hits in 6 2/3 innings. He also struck out nine batters and notched a career-high 20 swings-and-misses. A common theme over the first month for Porcello has been shaky defense behind him and a lack of run support. Another unearned run Wednesday for Porcello gives him five so far on the young season, which is tied for the most in the major leagues. But, despite the right-hander’s 1-3... NESN.com

Red Sox Notes: Lack Of Timely, Extra-Base Hits Haunting Sox Early In Season

Share this: The Boston Red Sox suffered a disappointing loss at Fenway Park on Friday as they were thumped by the Tampa Bay Rays 10-5. Rick Porcello turned in his worst outing in recent memory. The Red Sox ace was shelled for eight runs over 4 1/3 innings of work and included four home runs, including a grand slam in the third inning. Tampa Bay’s pop at the plate is what earned it the victory, as Boston actually outhit their American League East rival by a 14-12 margin. However, only three of Boston’s hits went for extra bases (three doubles). Boston’s best scoring opportunity came when it loaded the bases in the fourth inning, but an inning-ending groundout off the bat of Pablo Sandoval

Red Sox Notes: Rick Porcello OK After Near-Collision With Tigers Coach

The Boston Red Sox have enough ailing players to fill an infirmary ward, and Rick Porcello nearly joined the walking wounded Sunday. The Red Sox starter had just allowed his third run of the afternoon in the fourth inning when he nearly collided with Detroit Tigers third base coach Dave Clark while running behind the base to back up a potential throw to third. Porcello landed awkwardly and came up holding his left leg in a limp. (Click on the photo below to see a video of the play.)

Chris Sale, Who Got David Price’s Blessing, Doesn’t Care About ‘Ace’ Label

Share this: Just two seasons ago, the Boston Red Sox’s lack of an ace was such a hot topic that Clay Buchholz made T-shirts about it. Now, the Red Sox have three of them. Dave Dombrowski and Co. landed the prize of the offseason Tuesday in Chris Sale, adding one of the best pitchers in baseball to a rotation that includes five-time All-Star David Price and reigning American League Cy Young Award winner Rick Porcello. In a conference call with the Red Sox on Wednesday morning, Sale gushed about pitching among such talent. It appears the feeling is mutual, too: Sale says Price was the first person to contact him after Tuesday’s blockbuster. “Yes, more so with Price, just seeing each other during the summer,” Sale

Will 2016 Red Sox Rotation Be Best In American League After Chris Sale Trade?

Share this: The Boston Red Sox were busy making moves Tuesday, and they might have built the best starting rotation in the American League in the process. The headliner Tuesday was Boston’s trade with the Chicago White Sox for left-handed ace Chris Sale, who will join a rotation that already has two former AL Cy Young Award winners in David Price (2012) and Rick Porcello (2016). Hear NESN’s Jerry Remy discuss if Boston now has the best rotation in the AL and more with Kacie McDonnell in the video from “NESN Sports Today,” presented by People’s United Bank, above. Rick Porcello Drops The Ball As Red Sox Fall To Indians In ALDS Game 1

Share this: The Boston Red Sox no doubt went into Game 1 of their American League Division Series against the Cleveland Indians with a lot of confidence in their starting pitcher. Rick Porcello pitched himself into AL Cy Young contention during the 2016 season with a 22-4 record, 3.15 ERA, 1.01 WHIP and a career-low .230 batting average against. But unfortunately for the Red Sox, that wasn’t the Rick Porcello who showed up for Boston’s 5-4 loss at Progressive Field on Thursday. The Porcello who showed up Thursday got off to a great start, striking out the side in the first inning after hitting leadoff batter Carlos Santana. But once the second rolled around, the right-hander gave up the 1-0 lead the Red
