Red Sox Notes: Rick Porcello’s Competitiveness On Full Display In Rainy Win

The wheels could have fallen off at any point for Rick Porcello on Monday. Before the right-hander even took the mound at Camden Yards, he had to go back into the clubhouse due to a rain delay. And with two down in the bottom half of the third, Porcello again had to head down the tunnel, with a second rain delay stopping play. But dialed in he was, turning in a solid performance in the Boston Red Sox’s 5-3 win over the Baltimore Orioles. It wasn’t like Porcello completely stifled the Orioles lineup, but he did more than enough to effectively shut them down. He tossed six scoreless innings, allowing six hits and as

The Boston Red Sox’s offense did everything it could to extend the club’s winning streak to 11 games Friday against the Toronto Blue Jays, but it wasn’t enough as the Sox ultimately fell 13-7 at Fenway Park. Starter Rick Porcello had a rough night, giving up eight earned runs in two-plus innings while uncharacteristically walking four hitters. The 2016 American League Cy Young Award winner didn’t shy away from blame after the loss, saying the defeat was on his inability to execute and hold a lead. Red Sox Notes: Rick Porcello, Alex Cora React To Pitcher’s Three-Run Double

Show of hands: Entering Monday’s game, who had Rick Porcello as the Boston Red Sox’s most important offensive contributor? Of course, such a belief would have been nonsense in the first place, but coupled with the fact that the Sox were facing Washington Nationals ace Max Scherzer, such a notion would’ve bordered the line of lunacy. But there it was, the Nats intentionally walked Jackie Bradley Jr. to load the bases and get to Porcello, and he responded by launching a ball to deep left field on an 0-2 count to empty the bases. Given the Red Sox ultimately won 4-3, it’s clear how important the double was to the eventual result of the

Rick Porcello Able To Utilize All Pitches In Thursday’s Win Vs. Twins

Rick Porcello pitched a gem Thursday afternoon. The Boston Red Sox right-hander tossed seven scoreless innings while striking out five in Boston’s convincing 9-2 win over the Minnesota Twins at Target Field. He’s been brilliant in his last five starts — going 3-1 with a 2.81 ERA over 32 innings of work. Porcello’s issued just nine walks while striking out 29 batters. The pitcher utilized all his pitches on the bump Thursday, which he said led to his solid outing as he improved to 9-3 on the season. But he also praised the offense, noting the strong game they had at the dish. To hear all of Porcello’s comments, check out the “Re... NESN.com

Red Sox’s Rick Porcello Bemoans Walks Allowed In Outing Vs. White Sox

Rick Porcello had allowed one walk or less in seven of his 13 outings entering Sunday. Unfortunately for the Boston Red Sox starter, he had trouble finding the strike zone in the series finale against the Chicago White Sox. The veteran right-hander allowed three free-passes to the Southsiders, including a bases-loaded walk in the third inning, as Chicago grabbed a 5-2 victory at Fenway Park. After the game, Porcello acknowledged that while pitchers won’t be 100 percent every outing, throwing strikes is to be expected. The Boston Red Sox will send Rick Porcello to the mound Sunday afternoon at Fenway Park as they try to take two of three games from their weekend series against the Chicago White Sox.
