Aside from being dominant on the mound, Rick Porcello’s march to the 2016 American League Cy Young Award was assisted by the Boston Red Sox bats. The right-hander received an outpouring of run support in nearly every start last season, which helped him amass a 22-4 record en route to baseball’s highest pitching honor. It’s been a much different tale of the tape this season, though, as the Red Sox offense, for whatever reason, has been quiet on nights Porcello takes the hill. Wednesday’s outing was no different, as Boston was defeated 4-1 by the Minnesota Twins, marking Porcello’s 10th loss of the 2017 campaign. To be clear, Porcello ha... NESN.com

Red Sox Vs. Mariners Lineup: Rick Porcello Aims To Extend Boston’s Streak
The Boston Red Sox haven’t lost in over a week, and they’ll send their Cy Young winner to the mound Sunday to try to keep their winning streak going. Rick Porcello gets the start for Boston’s series finale against the Seattle Mariners at Fenway Park, as the Red Sox go for the series sweep after winning 6-0 on Saturday. The Sox have won six games in a row dating to last Saturday, the longest active streak in the majors. Porcello has struggled a bit lately, allowing a total of 11 runs over his last four starts. The right-hander pitched well in his last start against Seattle, though, striking out eight Mariners over eight innings on
Red Sox Notes: Rick Porcello Is ‘Back In Control’ Despite Loss Vs. Yankees
Boston Red Sox starter Rick Porcello is one loss away from matching his season total from 2016. The 2016 American League Cy Young winner took another tough-luck loss Wednesday night against the New York Yankees. Porcello allowed three runs (two earned) on five hits in 6 2/3 innings. He also struck out nine batters and notched a career-high 20 swings-and-misses. A common theme over the first month for Porcello has been shaky defense behind him and a lack of run support. Another unearned run Wednesday for Porcello gives him five so far on the young season, which is tied for the most in the major leagues. But, despite the right-hander’s 1-3... NESN.com
Red Sox Notes: Rick Porcello OK After Near-Collision With Tigers Coach
The Boston Red Sox have enough ailing players to fill an infirmary ward, and Rick Porcello nearly joined the walking wounded Sunday. The Red Sox starter had just allowed his third run of the afternoon in the fourth inning when he nearly collided with Detroit Tigers third base coach Dave Clark while running behind the base to back up a potential throw to third. Porcello landed awkwardly and came up holding his left leg in a limp. (Click on the photo below to see a video of the play.)
Red Sox Notes: Rick Porcello Helps Boston By Pitching Deep Into Win Vs. Braves
The Boston Red Sox needed a starting pitcher to turn in a quality, long start, and that’s exactly what they received from Rick Porcello on Monday night. The Red Sox right-hander tossed 6 1/3 scoreless innings in Boston’s 1-0 victory over the Atlanta Braves at Turner Field, and it was just what the doctor ordered. “We needed a starter to go deep and he did that,” manager John Farrell said on NESN’s “Red Sox Extra Innings.” “He was in command the entire time out there. … Rick, as he’s been of late, he gets on a little bit of a roll — the rhythm, tempo of the game — he was moving along well. A
Red Sox Notes: Rick Porcello Not Where He Wants To Be Yet After Rough Start
Rick Porcello’s once promising spring training outing Sunday changed with two outs in the second inning. Porcello, who had blanked the Tampa Bay Rays on Sunday through the first 1 2/3 innings, allowed eight runs, all with two outs, over the next two frames in the Boston Red Sox’s 13-5 loss in Port Charlotte, Fla. “I don’t like the line, but it’s a work in progress, and clearly I’m not where I want to be yet,” Porcello said, via MLB.com. “It doesn’t look that good, but I feel like I’m improving.” He added: “The results weren’t very good. They hit mistakes. Really, the thing that felt most important to me was that I was ...
