Share this: An NFL team’s third preseason game is considered the most important and closest to a regular season matchup because of the length of time starters stay on the field. New England Patriots head coach Bill Belichick guffawed this week at mentioning a preseason game in the same sentence as a regular season matchup, and it’s tough to blame him. The Patriots aren’t game planning for their matchup against the Carolina Panthers this week since they’re still in the roster evaluation stage. Here are 10 players whose standing on the roster could depend on how they perform in the third and fourth weeks of the preseason. RB D.J. Patriots Roster Breakdown: Who’s A Lock, On The Bubble Nearing Cutdowns
Share this: The New England Patriots made roster projections a lot easier this week. They released seven players, bringing their 90-man roster down to 83 and opened up potential spots because of injuries to Dion Lewis and Sebastian Vollmer. With the 75-man cutdown less than a week away and the 53-man deadline in just nine days, let’s categorize who’s a lock, an odd-on favorite for a roster spot and on the bubble. And just a quick note: I don’t use locks loosely. QUARTERBACKLocks: Tom Brady, Jimmy Garoppolo, Jacoby Brissett Odds-on: None On the bubble: None— The Patriots never brought in a fourth quarterback, so there’s no one to release at this point. It will be interesting to see if the Patriots sign a quarterback cut over the next two
Here Are Five Patriots Positional Battles To Watch In Bears Preseason Game
Share this: Time is ticking for New England Patriots head coach Bill Belichick to decide on some tough roster battles this summer. The Patriots must cut down their 90-man roster to 75 players by Aug. 30 before cutting to 53 on Sept. 3. The Patriots’ positional battles won’t be decided Thursday in their second preseason game against the Bears, but we could begin to see some separation in the competition. Here’s what we’ll be watching in the Patriots-Bears matchup. RUNNING BACK: TYLER GAFFNEY VS. THE FIELDThis isn’t so much a positional battle as much as it’s Gaffney’s quest to prove he deserves a roster spot over other candidates like LeGarrette Blount, James White or Brandon Bolden. They still have two weeks of practice and three more preseason games before they whittle down their roster. Here’s where those roster battles currently stand. RUNNING BACKDion Lewis, LeGarrette Blount, Brandon Bolden, James White, Tyler Gaffney, Donald Brown, Joey Iosefa, D.J. FosterAt most, only four of the above players will make the 53-man roster. Team USA heads to Brazil in search of its third consecutive Olympic gold medal and its fourth all-time. The 18-woman roster is smaller in numbers than the group that won the 2015 FIFA Women’s World Cup last year but expectations remain as high as ever. Included among Team USA’s 18 are established superstars Hope Solo, Carli Lloyd and Alex Morgan. Rising stars Christen Press, Julie Johnston and Tobin Heath are trying to become household names like their high-profile teammates. Morgan Brian, Mallory Pugh and Crystal
Patriots Fill Active Roster By Signing Kevin Snyder From Practice Squad
FOXBORO, Mass. — The New England Patriots filled their active roster by signing linebacker Kevin Snyder off the practice squad, according to a source.
