The Boston Red Sox catcher has been a revelation since returning from Pawtucket in early June, hitting .400 in 26 games, with two more hits Monday night against the Detroit Tigers. But Leon also showed off in another way Monday night. Mike Aviles popped up a Drew Pomeranz pitch behind home plate, and Leon went chasing after it toward the screen. After seeing he had a chance to make the catch, Leon tossed his mask back toward the batter’s box. BOSTON — The Red Sox will be a little light at the catcher position over the next couple weeks. The Red Sox placed left fielder/catcher Blake Swihart (left ankle sprain) and catcher Ryan Hanigan (neck strain) on the 15-day disabled list Sunday ahead of their series finale against the Toronto Blue Jays at Fenway Park. Both players left Saturday’s game with injuries in a span of under an inning, with Hanigan exiting after the sixth and Swihart leaving in the top of the seventh.
