The Boston Red Sox’s march to the World Series is about to begin. Boston will finish its regular season Sunday against the New York Yankees and then will prepare to face the winner of the American League Wild Card Game in the American League Division Series. Despite suffering an 8-5 loss Saturday at Fenway Park, the Red Sox got a solid outing from right-hander Nathan Eovaldi who appears to be the favorite for the No. 4 starter role in the playoffs. Utility-man Brock Holt also continued his recent hot streak by cranking a two-run blast late in the contest. After the game, both players noted they feel “confident” and are in a

Alex Rodriguez Has Two Concerns About Red Sox’s World Series Chances
The Boston Red Sox own the best record in Major League Baseball, and they’ll therefore have home-field advantage throughout the postseason. To say expectations are high would be a major understatement. The Red Sox aren’t without their flaws, though, and former All-Star slugger Alex Rodriguez identified two concerns for Boston while discussing the upcoming MLB playoffs Friday with ESPN’s Stephen A. Smith. A-Rod, who acknowledged there’s a ton of pressure on the Red Sox, has questions about Chris Sale’s health and the overall postseason effectiveness of Boston’s starting pitchers. Sale, who spent time on the disabled list twice th... NESN.com
Red Sox’s Victory ‘Not Just Another Game’ After Breaking Franchise Record
It’s been quite a historic year for the Boston Red Sox. The team set a new franchise record for wins in a single season Monday night with a 6-2 victory over the Baltimore Orioles at Fenway Park. Boston also clinched home field advantage throughout the playoffs beginning Oct. 5. But what makes this Red Sox team so different from previous Boston World Series teams? NESN’s Dave O’Brien and Dennis Eckersley discussed why the team is special, and why the Red Sox need to do well in the postseason as they battle for the World Series trophy. Red Sox’s Chris Sale Breaks Down One-Inning Outing Vs. Blue Jays
We knew Chris Sale’s outing Tuesday night was going to be brief, but not even the left-hander probably thought it would be that brief. Sale tossed just one inning against the Toronto Blue Jays in his return to the mound, allowing one hit while striking out two in a scoreless frame. After the Boston Red Sox’s 7-2 win at Fenway Park, Sale admitted he was a little erratic and rushed things a bit. Still, the southpaw “felt good” in his first appearance since returning from his second disabled list stint of the season. For more from Sale, check out the video above from “NESN Sports Today,”
Rick Porcello Laments His, Red Sox’s ‘Sloppy’ Performance In Loss To Rays
The Boston Red Sox have looked pretty sharp most nights this season, but Saturday was not one of those nights. The Sox put on a pretty ugly showing and fell to the Tampa Bay Rays 5-1, dropping the second straight contest of the three-game set at Tropicana Field. There really were no redeeming qualities for Boston in the loss, as everything from the pitching to the offense were quite underwhelming. Following the game, Sox starter Rick Porcello gave a pretty candid assessment of his and his team’s performance. To hear what he had to say, check out the “NESN Sports Today” video above, presented
Alex Cora Tips Cap To Phillies’ Bullpen After Red Sox’s 7-4 Loss
The Boston Red Sox were unable to complete a two-game sweep of the Phillies on Wednesday night, and it was due in large part to Philadelphia’s bullpen. The Red Sox had their opportunity to bury the Phillies early on, as they plated three runs in the third inning and had a chance to blow it open with bases loaded and no outs when Phillies manager Gabe Kapler went the bullpen. Hector Neris got out of the inning without allowing another run and the rest of the Phillies’ pen took it from there, allowing only one more run in Philadelphia’s 7-4 win at Citizens Bank Park.
