Rick Porcello had allowed one walk or less in seven of his 13 outings entering Sunday. Unfortunately for the Boston Red Sox starter, he had trouble finding the strike zone in the series finale against the Chicago White Sox. The veteran right-hander allowed three free-passes to the Southsiders, including a bases-loaded walk in the third inning, as Chicago grabbed a 5-2 victory at Fenway Park. After the game, Porcello acknowledged that while pitchers won’t be 100 percent every outing, throwing strikes is to be expected. Red Sox’s Chris Sale Talks What Makes Houston Astros’ Offense So Good
Chris Sale knew he had his work cut out for him facing a Houston Astros lineup. The Boston Red Sox lefty gave up four runs on six hits in Friday night’s 7-3 loss at Minute Maid Park, but also was familiar with the Astros after facing them twice in the 2017 American League Division Series. After the game, he credited Houston’s offense, saying the team winning the World Series in 2017 speaks to just how good they are. Alex Cora Has Priceless Reaction To Red Sox’s Grand Slam Frenzy
Alex Cora seemingly has pushed all the right buttons for the Boston Red Sox amid their historic start, but the first-year manager won’t take credit for one impressive feat that his team has accomplished. The Red Sox recorded their 19th win in April on Monday night against the Kansas City Royals — a new franchise record — thanks to an offensive outburst that included a grand slam off the bat of Xander Bogaerts. Boston now has six grand slams on the season, tied for the most in Major League Baseball history before May 1. The feat is impressive in its own right, but even more so considering Boston didn’t hit any grand slams last season.
Yawkey Way Name Change Approved By Commission After Red Sox’s Proposal
Fenway Park has a new address. Boston’s Public Improvement Commission on Thursday unanimously approved the Red Sox’s proposal to rename Yawkey Way. The street on which Fenway Park is located will return to its original name, Jersey Street. The street was renamed for former Red Sox owner Tom Yawkey following his death in 1976, but the decision drew criticism over the years for the history of racism linked to Yawkey. Current Red Sox owner John Henry said last year he was “haunted” by the connection, and the team submitted a petition back in February to change the street’s name. ... NESN.com
Alex Cora Not Surprised By Red Sox’s Impressive Start To 2018 Season
The Boston Red Sox continued their franchise-record start Tuesday when they pummelled the Los Angeles Angels 10-1 at Angel Stadium. Boston cranked six home runs, including three from Mookie Betts to start their West Coast road trip off on the right foot. The Red Sox improved to 14-2 on the season, marking only the second time in franchise history that they have won 14 out of 16 games, with the first time coming during the summer of 2011. Manager Alex Cora isn’t surprised by his team’s impressive start, noting that they were playing all-around good baseball in spring training. Cora also was pleased that his club wasn’t sluggish in the first game a... NESN.com
Here’s What Alex Cora Is Happiest About Amid Red Sox’s Stellar Start
BOSTON — The Boston Red Sox have been firing on all cylinders to start the 2018 season. The starting pitching has been superb, the hitting has been timely and the team’s resiliency has resulted in a few hard-fought, exciting wins. But for new Red Sox manager Alex Cora, what he’s happiest about through Boston’s 8-1 start to the campaign is what he’s seen with the gloves. “Defense,” Cora said prior to Tuesday’s game against the New York Yankees. “I know there’s numbers and errors and stuff that you take into consideration and errors are not as important as it was when we used to play. But when you make the routine play, you... NESN.com
