Does Clay Buchholz Deserve A Spot In Red Sox’s Rotation Amid Strong Stretch?

Clay Buchholz was just supposed to bridge the gap. But given the way he’s pitched over the last two weeks, the Boston Red Sox might have some decisions to make. Buchholz, who is filling in for the injured Steven Wright in Boston’s rotation, made his third consecutive start Tuesday. And for the third consecutive time, the right-hander put his team in a position to win, this time limiting the Tampa Bay Rays to one run over 6 1/3 innings while striking out nine in the Red Sox’s 2-1 win at Tropicana Field. To say Buchholz has had a disappointing 2016 season would be an understatement: He posted a 6.35 ERA record through his first

Jackie Bradley Jr. Takes Over As Red Sox’s Cleanup Hitter Vs. Angels

David Ortiz won’t be in the Boston Red Sox’s starting lineup against the Los Angeles Angels on Saturday, which means Jackie Bradley Jr. will slide up to the cleanup spot. The Red Sox center fielder certainly has been hitting like a cleanup hitter of late with his .342 batting average, three home runs and seven RBIs in his last 10 games. Mookie Betts, Red Sox’s Offense Power Boston To Commanding Win Vs. Twins

It was another hit parade at Fenway Park for the Boston Red Sox on Thursday, and Mookie Betts was a big reason why. The Red Sox right fielder went 3-for-5 with two RBIs, three runs and a leadoff home run in the bottom of the first inning of Boston’s 13-2 win over the Minnesota Twins. Brock Holt Back In Red Sox’s Lineup Vs. Angels; Hanley Ramirez Sits

BOSTON — Brock Holt is going right back to work. The Red Sox utility man came off the disabled list, where he had been since he suffered a concussion May 19, Friday and already is back in Boston’s lineup against the Los Angeles Angels. Holt will play left field and bat sixth. Hanley Ramirez is absent from Friday’s lineup after tweaking his back Wednesday against the Tampa Bay Rays. Red Sox manager John Farrell said whether Ramirez is available off the bench will be a game-time decision. In the meantime, Travis Shaw moves over to first base and will bat second, while Marco Hernandez will play third and bat ninth. Steven Wright is on the

John Farrell Holds Team Meeting After Red Sox’s Frustrating Loss To Rays

It appears John Farrell has seen enough. The Boston Red Sox manager witnessed his team suffer an ugly 13-7 loss Monday night to a Tampa Bay Rays team that hadn’t won a game in its previous 11 tries. Starting pitcher Eduardo Rodriguez gave up nine runs in just 2 2/3 innings, the Red Sox didn’t plate a run until the fourth and Boston’s bullpen allowed four runs. Immediately after that debacle at Tropicana Field, Farrell called his team together for a meeting and delivered a simple message. “The bottom line is, (Rodriguez) is capable of more. We’re capable of more,” the Red Sox manager told reporters after the game, as aired on NESN’s...

Clay Buchholz To Remain In Red Sox’s Rotation After Average Return

by Zack Cox on Tue, Jun 21, 2016 at 11:00PM 1,885 BOSTON — No Red Sox pitcher exhibits more Jekyll-and-Hyde tendencies than Clay Buchholz, and both sides of the right-hander were on display Tuesday as he returned to the rotation after a month-long foray into relief. The good: Buchholz retired 14 of the 19 Chicago White Sox batters he faced during his five innings of work. The not-so-good: Two of the four hits he surrendered were home runs, including one that came on his very first pi...

Brock Holt Back In Red Sox’s Lineup For Series Opener Vs. Yankees

BOSTON — The Red Sox open their first series against the New York Yankees on Friday, and they get to do it in the friendly confines of Fenway Park. Brock Holt is back in the lineup after getting a day off against the Atlanta Braves on Thursday, and he’ll play in left field and bat in his usual No. 7 spot in the order. Catcher Ryan Hanigan also will take over behind the plate for left-hander Henry Owens and bat eighth. Owens made his Major League Baseball debut against the Yankees on Aug. 4, 2015, and he’ll be looking for some revenge after the Red Sox ended up going down 13-3 in that game. Owens
