And, as Red Sox president of baseball operations Dave Dombrowski pointed out, there are multiple benefits to having such an event. “To be involved in an activity like this at this time of year, the club’s in position where you have the chance to get the players together to bond, to be with one another, to do other things,” Dombrowski told NESN’s Tom Caron about “Baseball Winter Weekend.” “They weren’t only introduced on stage, they had dinner, hang our afterwards and kind of get ready for spring training in that regard because it’s right around the

The Galician outfit beat Panathinaikos 2-0 on Thursday, but they surpassed that result with their fourth consecutive triumph in all competitions, running up a 3-0 lead against Barça with 33 minutes gone. The visitors responded twice after the break, but Pablo Hernández restored a little cushion before Gerard Piqué ensured a nervy finish.

Spring Training: Red Sox Top BC 6-0 In John Farrell’s Return To Dugout

FORT MYERS, Fla. — Boston Red Sox manager John Farrell returned to the dugout for the first time since revealing his cancer diagnosis in mid-August, and his team opened exhibition play with a 6-0 win over Boston College. Farrell missed the final seven weeks of the season while being treated for non-Hodgkin lymphoma. Hanley Ramirez handled a pair of easy plays in his debut at first base. He also doubled off the left-field wall and singled. Ramirez struggled last year while shifting from the infield to left field. The Red Sox moved him to first late in the season, but he didn’t play there after being shut down with a shoulder injury. Moo...

Koji Uehara recently looked very sharp during live batting practice on the back fields at JetBlue Park. The Boston Red Sox closer’s crispness didn’t spill over into his first spring training appearance. Uehara surrendered two doubles, a single and a run Friday as the Red Sox lost to the Miami Marlins 5-3 in Grapefruit League action at JetBlue Park. It was a shaky first outing for Uehara, who will be monitored closely throughout the season, but the right-hander wasn’t too concerned about the poor results. “I’m not even looking at my location or anything. I’m just trying to get my innings in,” Uehara told reporters in Fort Mye...
