Salzburg closing on Ajax’s record unbeaten run

Salzburg's 2-1 win at Borussia Dortmund in the first leg of their UEFA Europa League round of 16 tie has left them three games away from matching a 22-year-old record. The match was Salzburg's 18th consecutive without defeat in UEFA European club competition, a run stretching back to a 2-0 group stage win at Nice on 3 November 2016. The only longer streak ever recorded was one of 21 by Ajax between 14 September 1994 and 3 April 1996, during which time they won the UEFA Champions League (drawing twice with Salzburg) and reached the following semi-final, as well as lifting the UEFA Super Cup.

Bruins Notes: Patrice Bergeron’s Hot Streak Continues With Four Goals

Patrice Bergeron has never won the Hart Trophy, but it’s hard to find many NHL players more valuable to their team than the Boston Bruins center. Bergeron literally does it all for the B’s. He creates offense, shuts down the opponent’s top line and excels on special teams. In Saturday night’s 7-1 blowout win over the Carolina Hurricanes at TD Garden, Bergeron’s scoring prowess made the difference for Boston. The veteran forward scored a career-high four goals, while also adding an assist for a five-point night. He won 13 of his 17 faceoffs, too. Celtics Notes: Heat End Historic Boston Win Streak; Jayson Tatum Impresses

The Boston Celtics dug themselves too deep of a hole Wednesday night in Miami, and despite a valiant effort late in the fourth quarter, they couldn’t extend their win streak to 17 games after a 104-98 loss to the Heat. Boston had overcome deficits of 10 or more in three straight games entering Wednesday. The C’s clawed back from deficits of 18 (twice), 17, 16 and 13 during the win streak, but Heat guards Goran Dragic and Dion Waiters, who combined for 53 points, were too much to handle late in the game. The 16-game win streak is tied for the fourth-longest in team history. It included a nine-game road win streak (fifth-longest in franchise

Red Sox Notes: Eduardo Nunez, Rafael Devers Exceeding Expectations For Boston

Red Sox Notes: Eduardo Nunez, Rafael Devers Exceeding Expectations For Boston

The Boston Red Sox struggled mightily upon returning from the Major League Baseball All-Star break, and a lack of offense was one of the primary reasons why. The Red Sox simply couldn’t string multiple hits together, and scored three runs or less in seven of their first 14 games after the break. But the Red Sox’s bats suddenly have found a spark, in large part due to a 20-year-old prospect and a player acquired via trade that went fairly under the radar. Rafael Devers and Eduardo Nunez both have been red hot since arriving to Boston, and have helped the Sox post a three-game winning streak, with the latest victory coming in Thursday

Loss To Rangers Is ‘Tough To Swallow’ For Red Sox’s Doug Fister

Share this: Doug Fister couldn’t keep the Boston Red Sox’s winning streak alive Wednesday night. The right-hander lasted just 3 2/3 innings, allowing six runs (four earned) on five hits while striking out three and walking three in an 8-2 loss to the Texas Rangers at Globe Life Park. Fister was displeased with his outing as it taxed the Red Sox’s bullpen. To hear Fister discuss his start, check out the video above from “NESN Sports Today,” presented by People’s United Bank.
