Watch Derek Jeter Give Heartfelt Speech During Jersey Retirement Ceremony

Share this: The New York Yankees officially ran out of single digit numbers Sunday night. The Yankees honored former shortstop Derek Jeter by retiring his number before their game against the Houston Astros at Yankee Stadium, and the highlight came when the surefire Hall of Famer unveiled his iconic No. 2 in Monument Park. Jeter also gave a heartfelt speech in which he thanked the Yankees and their fans for their support during his 19-year MLB career. Jeter was the face of baseball for almost two decades, and his accomplishments, of course, are well known.  A five-time World Series champion, Jeter amassed over 3,400 hits and was a 14-time All-Star, while never playing for a team with a sub-.500 record. He was celebrated at Yankee Stadium

Aaron Hernandez’s Suicide Cast A Shadow Over Patriots’ White House Visit

Share this: WASHINGTON, D.C. — His full name was not uttered while the White House honored the New England Patriots, but it was clear Aaron Hernandez’s suicide loomed large over the ceremony. President Donald Trump’s speech honoring the Patriots was tame. Bill Belichick and Robert Kraft addressed the crowd but not the media. The Patriots didn’t send veteran players out to answer questions, only rookie wide receiver Malcolm Mitchell and second-year long snapper Joe Cardona, both of whom were asked by Patriots media relations to speak after the ceremony when Trump mentioned them by name. Neither played with Hernandez and Cardona would only refer to him as “Aaron” when asked how his teammates responded to the former Patriots tight end’s death. They were

Celtics Notes: Isaiah Thomas Plays With Heavy Heart In Loss To Bulls

Share this: BOSTON — No one would have batted an eye had Isaiah Thomas turned in a poor performance in the Boston Celtics’ Game 1 matchup against the Chicago Bulls on Sunday night. Thomas took the TD Garden floor just one day after his 22-year-old sister tragically was killed in a single-car crash in Washington early Saturday morning. But just when you thought Thomas ran out of amazing moments, the All-Star point guard delivered another one Sunday night. Although the Celtics ultimately were edged by the Chicago Bulls 106-102, Thomas turned in a tremendous performance despite the circumstances. He posted a game-high with 33 points and nearly led the Celtics to a Game 1 win in their first-round NBA playoff series. Boston head coach Brad Stevens praised

Leon Powe Wants Ray Allen At ’08 Celtics Reunion: ‘We’ve Got To Get Over This’

Share this: As much as Boston Celtics fans might not want to admit it, it’s unlikely the team would have won the 2007-08 NBA Finals without Ray Allen. And one of his former teammates agrees. Former Celtics guard Rajon Rondo revealed recently that he was organizing a reunion with the team this summer, but he openly admitted Allen wasn’t invited. Rondo and Allen, in particular, didn’t get along before the shooting guard jumped ship for the Miami Heat, and the move only made things worse. But Leon Powe, who was a key member of the Celtics’ bench that season, thinks the whole issue is ridiculous. “Ray needs an invitation,” Powe said on CSNNE’s “Celtics Talk” podcast Friday. “I don’t care who says he don’t.

Mohamed Sanu, Logan Ryan Texted Eyes Emojis After AFC Championship Game

Share this: FOXBORO, Mass. — Mohamed Sanu and Logan Ryan haven’t exchanged words since the Super Bowl LI matchup was decided, but they did swap emojis. Sanu and Ryan might feel like they’re back in Piscataway, N.J. next Sunday in the Super Bowl when they line up across from each other at NRG Stadium in Houston. Sanu, an Atlanta Falcons wide receiver, and Ryan, a New England Patriots cornerback, were teammates at Rutgers for three seasons and suitemates for two of those. They were recruited in the same college class as defensive backs until Sanu was forced to move from safety to receiver before his freshman season. The two practiced against each other frequently. “He won his, I won mine,” Ryan said. “I think we’ll see

Brandon Marshall Reportedly Ticked Off Jets Teammates With Halftime Rant

Brandon Marshall Reportedly Ticked Off Jets Teammates With Halftime Rant

The New York Jets weren’t really in the holiday spirit Saturday. Not only did the team get blown out by the New England Patriots 41-3 on Christmas Eve at Gillette Stadium. But some Jets players were irked by a fiery speech given by wide receiver Brandon Marshall at halftime with New York trailing 27-0, team sources told ESPN.com’s Rich Cimini. Marshall told ESPN.com on Wednesday that his objective was to fire up his Jets teammates. The outburst seemingly had the opposite effect, though, as the speech reportedly might have raised tensions in the Jets’ locker room. “We were getting our butts kicked, and I was trying to get guys to respond, ...
