Ten-man United edge Leverkusen in thriller

Hosts Manchester United FC won a rollercoaster game despite ending with ten men against Bayer 04 Leverkusen as an 89th-minute James Wilson penalty secured the three points.The game began as it ended, with Wilson finding the net in just the fourth minute. The United advantage was doubled shortly after through Ben Pearson's smart finish but the visitors were level before the break as Marc Brasnic struck twice in two minutes. The turnaround seemed complete when Maximilian Wagener put Leverkusen ahead but Andreas Pereira's 71st-minute equaliser and Wilson's winner snatched it despite Patrick McNair receiving a second yellow with 15 minutes remaining.Click on the box above to watch highlights.

All Blacks crowned world champions after thriller

New Zealand have won the 2011 Rugby World Cup after edging out France by 8-7 in a thrilling final in Auckland. This was not the coronation that had been predicted but ultimately a first-half try from prop Tony Woodcock and a penalty from fourth-choice fly-half Stephen Donald proved enough to end the country's long wait for a second triumph after 1987. Having been written off by all but themselves, the French, led by man of the match Thierry Dusautoir, answered the challenge of New Zealand's haka by advancing in an arrow formation before the game and gave the host nation an almighty scare during it. Friendlies: Liverpool held in Valerenga thriller

Liverpool failed to win for the third consecutive pre-season match after they were held to a 3-3 draw by Valerenga in Oslo. GettyImagesKenny Dalglish has planning to do. Kenny Dalglish fielded a strong line-up after suffering 3-0 defeats in his previous two warm-up games, against Hull and Galatasaray, but the Reds were 2-0 down early on after goals from Lars Iver Strand and Fegor Ogude. Andy Carroll pulled a goal back before half-time, albeit after the ball seemed to hit his hand, and Liverpool looked like they had pulled off a victory when Daniel Agger scored twice from two corners in the final five minutes. An entertaining contest had one more goal left in it though, as substitute Mohammed Fellah scored from long range
