USA Vs. Mexico: How Rafa Marquez Ended Columbus Curse In World Cup Qualifying

Like the country it represents, the United States men’s soccer team entered a world of uncertainty this week. Unlike the U.S. nation itself, we can blame Mexico for the change in mood. Team USA lost 2-1 to Mexico on Friday at Mapfre Stadium in Columbus, Ohio. Rafael Marquez scored the winning goal in the 89th minute to consign the U.S. its first home loss in FIFA World Cup qualifying in 15 years. Conversely, Mexico notched its first road World Cup qualifying win over its archrival since 1972. While “El Tri” has kicked off its final round of World Cup qualifying with a bang, team USA has stumbled into an iffy future ahead of

NFLPA Won’t Pursue Deflategate Appeals After Consulting With Tom Brady

Share this: It appears we officially can say goodbye to Deflategate. The drama basically has been for a while after Tom Brady decided not to appeal the U.S. Court of Appeals’ decision to reinstate his four-game Deflategate suspension in the offseason, but the NFL Players’ Association still had the option to pursue further legal action in the case. But the NFLPA tweeted Sunday shortly before Brady’s suspension expired at midnight that it is done after talking with Brady. After consultation with Tom Brady and our appellate counsel, we have decided to not pursue additional appeals in this matter. — NFLPA (@NFLPA) October 3, 2016 So there you have it, folks: Deflategate is history. Was Hope Solo’s Union Activism Behind Her Suspension From USA Soccer Team?

Share this: Hope Solo didn’t need much time to conclude there’s more to her suspension from the United States women’s national soccer team than meets the eye. The American goalkeeper told documentary series “Full Screen” that her role as a labor leader among Team USA’s players is the primary reason why the U.S. Soccer Federation suspended her for six months and terminated her contract, according to FOX Sports. Solo suggested U.S. Soccer’s stated reason for her suspension — calling Sweden “cowards” after they eliminated Team USA from the 2016 Rio Olympics in the quarterfinals — was a mere cover story for what amounts to retaliation. “They’re going to use my comments as an excuse to get rid of me forever so that they

Rio police charge Lochte with false report of robbery

RIO DE JANEIRO (AP) — Brazilian police charged American swimmer Ryan Lochte on Thursday with filing a false robbery report over an incident during the Olympics in Rio de Janeiro. A police statement said Lochte would be informed in the United States so he could decide whether to introduce a defense in Brazil. The indictment will also be sent to the International Olympic Committee’s ethics commission, the statement said. Lochte initially said that he and fellow swimmers Jack Conger, Gunnar Bentz and Jimmy Feigen were robbed at gunpoint in a taxi by men with a police badge as they returned to the Olympic Village from a party Aug. 15. However, security video suggested the four actually faced security guards after vandalizing a gas

Hope Solo Suspended Six Months, Has Contract Terminated By U.S. Soccer

Share this: UPDATE (8:15 p.m. ET): Minutes after the world learned of Hope Solo’s six month suspension via U.S. Soccer for her controversial Olympic comments, the goalie told Sports Illustrated that her contract has been terminated. ORIGINAL STORY: Before Ryan Lochte got himself into trouble at the Olympics, Hope Solo was at the center of her own self-inflicted controversy in Rio de Janeiro. And we’re not even talking about her Zika virus jokes. Following the U.S. women’s soccer team’s stunning quarterfinal loss against Sweden at the 2016 Summer Olympics, Solo said USA “lost to a bunch of cowards,” among other things. Well, actions have consequences, and Solo learned that the hard way Wednesday night when the USWNT announced it has suspended Solo for six months for

By BRIAN MAHONEY AP Basketball Writer RIO DE JANEIRO (AP) — The U.S. Olympic men’s basketball team won its third straight gold medal and did it easily, beating Serbia 96-66 on Sunday. After a few close calls earlier in the tournament, this was no contest. Kevin Durant scored 30 points and helped the Americans jump out to a huge lead by halftime.
