The New England Patriots welcomed the Jacksonville Jaguars to Gillette Stadium for joint practices last week as the teams prepared for their NFL Week 1 preseason game last Thursday. Now, the Pats are headed on the road for joint practices. They will go down to West Virginia to practice with the Houston Texans. These teams met in the AFC Divisional Round of the playoffs last season, a game the Patriots won. They’ll play at NRG Stadium on Saturday night in Week 2 of the preseason. West Football All-Stars Win Again

In the 63rd Annual East-West Senior All-Star Football game the West defeated the East 19-7 on Wednesday at Jamieson Stadium at Grimsley High School in Greensboro. The West leads the all-time series 37-25 with one tie, won its second consecutive game against the East. John Knox II from Salisbury ran for 111 yards and scored on a 50-yard pass play. West Defensive lineman Stephen Burns from Alexander Central sacked the East quarterback on the very first play of the game. The West had three players from the high country, Burns, Dustin Anderson from Asheville High School and DJ Mouzon from Hickory. And head coach Tom Harper of Alexander Central was an assistant for the West.  

New Orleans Hornets All-Star David West Opts Out of Final Year of Contract, Becomes Free Agent

When New Orleans Hornets power forward David West saw his season come to an early end in April, many assumed that the former All-Star would exercise his option for the 2011-12 season. Apparently, West has other plans. West elected to opt out of the final year of his contract and test free agency, ESPN.com reported Monday. The 30-year-old tore his anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee in late March, and had season-ending surgery in April. The initial expected recovery time for the injury was six to eight months, but West has been recovering faster than expected. West, who averaged 18.9 points and 7.6 rebounds prior to his injury, is expected to draw interest from multiple clubs, including New Jersey and Indiana,
