It seems David Ortiz is enjoying his retirement. The former Boston Red Sox designated hitter has been appearing in a multitude of commercials, and despite his cliffhanger tweet Monday night, it appears he’s not planning on returning to the diamond. Not even to play for his home country. Even though Ortiz won’t be showing up to spring training for the Red Sox in March, the slugger hasn’t shown any interest in playing for the Dominican Republic in this year’s World Baseball Classic, according to MLB Network’s Jon Morosi, citing team general manager Moises Alou. Ortiz wasn’t a member of the Dominican Republic team that won th... NESN.com

FIFA To Expand World Cup, Radically Change Format Starting In 2026
The world’s biggest sporting event will grow even larger in the future. FIFA announced on its website Tuesday it has voted to expand the FIFA World Cup finals from 32 teams to 48 starting in 2026. The FIFA Council decided to expand the World Cup by unanimous decision. In the new format, the 48 teams will split into 16 groups of three. The top two teams in each group will then advance to a 32-team knockout phase. FIFA will continue to stage the tournament over 32 days, and no team will play more than seven games, as is the current practice. The news comes as no surprise to most, as World Cup expansion was one
Ronaldo treble fires Madrid to Club World Cup glory
Cristiano Ronaldo scored a hat-trick to help Real Madrid cap a near-perfect 2016 as they defeated Kashima Antlers 4-2 after extra time to lift the FIFA Club World Cup in Yokohama, Japan. The topsy-turvy affair was befitting of Madrid's ongoing unbeaten run – now a club-record 37 games – with the Merengues coming from behind to clinch glory after Karim Benzema had registered an early opener. Two expertly taken goals either side of half-time from Gaku Shibasaki fired Kashima into a surprise lead, but Ronaldo scored his first from the penalty spot on the hour to ensure the game went to
USA Vs. Mexico: How Rafa Marquez Ended Columbus Curse In World Cup Qualifying
Like the country it represents, the United States men’s soccer team entered a world of uncertainty this week. Unlike the U.S. nation itself, we can blame Mexico for the change in mood. Team USA lost 2-1 to Mexico on Friday at Mapfre Stadium in Columbus, Ohio. Rafael Marquez scored the winning goal in the 89th minute to consign the U.S. its first home loss in FIFA World Cup qualifying in 15 years. Conversely, Mexico notched its first road World Cup qualifying win over its archrival since 1972. While “El Tri” has kicked off its final round of World Cup qualifying with a bang, team USA has stumbled into an iffy future ahead of

The Canada native came onto the music scene in the 1960s, laying the foundation for a five-decade-long career as one of the most influential people in the industry. He was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2008. Cohen wrote and performed many songs over his career, but perhaps none are more famous than “Hallelujah,” his 1984 song that since has been covered by countless artists. One of the best renditions of “Hallelujah” came at the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver, when Canadian singer K.D.
How Jason Heyward’s Rain-Delay Speech Made Cubs World Series Champions
Jason Heyward might have earned every penny of his $ 184 million contract with one speech Wednesday night. Rajai Davis’ two-run homer shockingly tied Game 7 of the World Series for the Cleveland Indians in the eighth inning, and Heyward’s Chicago Cubs entered the 17-minute rain delay that preceded extra innings possibly feeling sorry for themselves. That’s when Heyward stepped forward and rallied his teammates. “That was the best thing for us,” Cubs third baseman Kris Bryant told FOX Sports on the field after the game. “I mean, we all got together in the weight room, and, you know, we all supported each other. … Jason Heyward led the... David Ross Makes History To Help Cubs Keep World Series Hopes Alive
The Chicago Cubs have lived to see another day, and they have their 39-year-old catcher in part to thank. The Cubs staved off elimination at Wrigley Field on Sunday night, defeating the Cleveland Indians 3-2 in Game 5 of the World Series to force a Game 6 in Cleveland on Tuesday. David Ross was right in the thick of the action, delivering what proved to be the game-winning RBI in the fourth inning with a sacrifice fly to left field that scored Ben Zobrist from third base. That run gave Chicago a 3-1 lead, and while the Indians made it 3-2 in the sixth with a Francisco Lindor RBI single, Cubs closer
