Bogaerts will depart for Seoul, South Korea on Tuesday where he will meet up with Team Netherlands for the first round of the World Baseball Classic. The 21-year-old third baseman recorded his first major league hit, an RBI double, in just his second game since the Boston Red Sox called him up from Double-A Portland. Moncada also held his own on defense in his first big league start, though, and his throwing arm left an impression on fellow infielder Xander Bogaerts during Boston’s blowout win. The Boston Red Sox’s second baseman entered his final at-bat with a chance to tie the major league record for most consecutive at-bats with a hit. After three terrific nights at the plate, Pedroia was sitting on 11 straight hits (with a walk mixed in Friday) before grounding out in Boston’s 8-3 win.
