Share this: As it does every year, Major League Baseball’s 2017 Futures Game featured a host of talented position players — No. 1 overall prospect Yoan Moncada, No. 3 prospect Amed Rosario and the much-hyped Vladimir Guerrero Jr., to name a few. And Brent Honeywell mowed them all down. Honeywell, the No. 2-ranked player in the Tampa Bay Rays’ system and the 22nd ranked prospect in baseball, started on the mound Sunday for Team USA against Team World and downright dazzled the Marlins Park crowd. The 22-year-old right-hander pitched two scoreless innings, striking out four of the seven batters he faced with the help of a nasty screwball. Yes, a screwball. Here’s a look at the pitch in action: If you look closely, Honeywell’s pitch

Yoan Moncada’s Son Already A Bat-Flipping Machine And He’s Not Even 3 Years Old
Yoan Moncada made his Major League Baseball debut at a young age, and it appears his son is headed in that direction, too. The Chicago White Sox infielder’s son is just 2 1/2 years old, but he’s already displaying some pretty impressive bat flip skills. A video posted to Instagram on Thursday night showed little Robinson Moncada schooling all the other kids on the tee-ball field. His baserunning could use some work, though. Moncada is MLB’s No. 2 prospect, right behind former Boston Red Sox teammate ... NESN.com
Red Sox Left Fielder Andrew Benintendi Named Baseball’s Top Prospect
Share this: The Boston Red Sox still have the top-ranked prospect in baseball after trading Yoan Moncada to acquire star left-hander Chris Sale in December. According to MLB.com, Red Sox starting left fielder Andrew Benintendi now is the top prospect in baseball, earning the No. 1 spot on its Top 100 prospects list, with Moncada coming in second. Benintendi still has rookie eligibility, as he spent only 34 days in the big leagues and didn’t exceed 130 at-bats in 2016. New York Yankees shortstop prospect Gleyber Torres rounded out the top three. The Red Sox had two other prospects crack the list with third baseman Rafael Devers coming in at No. 17 and left-handed pitcher Jason Groome landing at No. 41. The other top prospect that Boston sent
Travis Shaw Clobbers Two-Run Homer In Return To Red Sox’s Lineup Vs. Padres
Share this: Yoan Moncada’s call-up apparently gave Travis Shaw some motivation. The Boston Red Sox third baseman was back in the lineup Wednesday night against the San Diego Padres after Moncada, who seemingly stole Shaw’s job, started to struggle. And Shaw immediately showed his worth to the Red Sox by absolutely crushing a two-run homer off Padres starter Jarred Cosart in the second inning. Shaw’s home run was his 16th of the season, and it came at a time when he was struggling, too. The 26-year-old batted .167 with a .542 OPS in August, but he has been heating up since having to compete with Moncada for playing time. Yoan Moncada Impressing Xander Bogaerts, Red Sox With Strong Arm At Third Base
Share this: Saturday was a special night for Yoan Moncada at the plate, but he brings more to the table than just his bat. The 21-year-old third baseman recorded his first major league hit, an RBI double, in just his second game since the Boston Red Sox called him up from Double-A Portland. Moncada also held his own on defense in his first big league start, though, and his throwing arm left an impression on fellow infielder Xander Bogaerts during Boston’s blowout win. Check out what Bogaerts had to say about Moncada, and right-hander Rick Porcello’s excellent start, in the “Red Sox Final” video above. More Stories Source link
