NEW YORK — UFC president Dana White announced Saturday night that UFC 205, the promotion’s inaugural event in the Empire State, drew 20,472 fans to Madison Square Garden, with a $17.7 million gate that set records for the arena and the sport.
The Fight of the Night was welterweight champion Tyron Woodley’s majority draw against Stephen Thompson. Performances of the Night came from Conor McGregor, who became the first UFC two-division champion, and Yoel Romero, who defeated Chris Weidman with a third-round TKO and had an interesting exchange with middleweight champ Michael Bisping.
White also said UFC 205 pay-per-view sales set a record, but he didn’t provide any numbers.
