Pete Frates’ No. 3 officially was retired by the Boston College baseball program at Pellagrini Diamond at Shea Field on Saturday.
Frates, who was diagnosed with Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis in 2012, was there as the Eagles honored their former captain and current director of baseball operations.
“This is such a huge thing for our family,” Frates’ wife, Julie Frates, told NESN’s Sarah Davis on Saturday. “This is a legacy for Pete and our family. So we couldn’t be more happy and thrilled for him. And at least he’s here to witness it all.”
