by Zack Cox on Sun, Mar 20, 2016 at 2:08AM 351 “Playing a 60-minute game” is such a common hockey cliche for a reason, the Boston Bruins showed it Saturday night. Boston saved perhaps the best two periods of its California road trip for last, but they were not enough to make up for the inauspicious start to Saturday night’s 2-1 loss to the Los Angeles Kings at Staples Center. The Kings nearly tripled up the Bruins in shots on net in the first 20 minut...

Manning, who announced his retirement earlier this month, spent 14 years with the Colts before finishing his career with the Denver Broncos. “It was my honor and privilege to play for this organization for 14 years,” Manning told reporters Friday. “I’ll always be a Colt.” Manning is coming off a Super Bowl win with the Broncos. He had an impressive four-year run with Denver to c...

Malcolm Butler Wants Extension With Patriots But Is Staying Patient
BROCKTON, Mass. — Malcolm Butler was met with raucous applause when he surprised West Middle School students Wednesday morning. Butler answered questions from a group of the Brockton middle schoolers who started a Kindness Club to prevent bullying at their school. Butler told the students about his experiences of being bullied and how to prevent it. “A speaker or a celebrity or giving someone advice, especially when people look up to you, it can change someone’s life,” Butler said after the event. “I can remember being in school, and a basketball player or football player came to our school. I wasn’t even talking to my friends, because I wa...
NCAA Tournament Midwest Preview: Will We Get Michigan State-Virginia Part III?
The Midwest region as a whole probably is the second-hardest of the bunch, but all eyes are going to be on two teams. NCAA Tournament fans will be watching to see if we’ll get a Michigan State vs. Virginia Part III, and this year’s potential matchup comes with some seeding drama. Many fans feel as though the Spartans should have gotten the No. 1 seed the Cavaliers were dealt on Selection Sunday, and that’ll only fuel Virginia’s fire, as it lost the previous two tournament meetings. Still, that’s not all the Midwest has going for it. With guys like Denzel Valentine (Michigan State), Malcolm Brogdon (Virginia), Jakob Poeltl (Utah), Georges Niang...
DeMaurice Smith: NFL, Union Working On Deal To End Roger Goodell’s Discipline Power
Roger Goodell’s days as the NFL’s judge, jury and executioner might be numbered. NFL Players Association executive director DeMaurice Smith told The Wall Street Journal on Monday that the league and union are working on a potential deal that would strip the NFL commissioner of his power to decide off-the-field discipline. “We’ve been talking about changes to the personal conduct policy since October and have traded proposals,” Smith told the Journal. “We looked at the league’s proposal for neutral arbitration. There is a common ground for us to get something done.” The NFL, which recently has lost cases against Ray Rice, Adrian ...
Red Sox Notes: Rick Porcello Not Where He Wants To Be Yet After Rough Start
Rick Porcello’s once promising spring training outing Sunday changed with two outs in the second inning. Porcello, who had blanked the Tampa Bay Rays on Sunday through the first 1 2/3 innings, allowed eight runs, all with two outs, over the next two frames in the Boston Red Sox’s 13-5 loss in Port Charlotte, Fla. “I don’t like the line, but it’s a work in progress, and clearly I’m not where I want to be yet,” Porcello said, via MLB.com. “It doesn’t look that good, but I feel like I’m improving.” He added: “The results weren’t very good. They hit mistakes. Really, the thing that felt most important to me was that I was ...
