Revolution Blank Dynamo With 2-0 Win After Lengthy Weather Delays In Foxboro

FOXBORO, Mass. — Jose Goncalves and Juan Agudelo scored second-half goals after long weather delays, and the New England Revolution beat the Houston Dynamo 2-0 in a game that ended early Sunday. Goncalves opened the scoring for the Revs (9-9-7) in the 69th minute, smashing home a right-footed shot after the Dynamo (6-9-7) failed to clear Lee Nguyen’s corner kick. Agudelo iced it with another goal in the 88th minute. Play was delayed nearly two hours in the 13th minute because of close lightning strikes and heavy downpours. The game was delayed again for about an hour during halftime. It was the first weather delay of a Revolution home game since Au...

Pete Carroll Takes Nasty Fall During Tyler Lockett’s Kickoff Return (Video)

Now that’s going to leave a mark. Seattle Seahawks coach Pete Carroll simply was minding his own business during Tyler Lockett’s electrifying 103-yard kickoff return for a touchdown during a preseason game against the Denver Broncos on Friday, but that all changed in an instant. The trailing referee was paying attention to Lockett as he ran down the sideline, which meant he didn’t see Carroll standing right in front of him. What ensued was an epic collision that you have to see for yourself. Ouch. That looked painful. Thumbnail photo via Joe Nicholson/USA TODAY Sports Images ...

Patriots Injuries Allow Jonas Gray, James White To Shine In Preseason Loss

FOXBORO, Mass. — The New England Patriots’ once-crowded backfield is looking pretty roomy these days. Tyler Gaffney was added to injured reserve Thursday, and Brandon Bolden, Travaris Cadet, LeGarrette Blount and Dion Lewis sat out of the Patriots’ preseason opener against the Green Bay Packers with injuries. That left just Jonas Gray, James White and recently signed rookie Tony Creecy to take every snap in the Patriots’ backfield. Those injuries gave Gray and White an opportunity to prove they deserve key roles in the Patriots’ offense this season, and they stepped up. Gray ran for 74 yards on seven carries, including a 55-yard touch...

Ronda Rousey Says She’d Beat Floyd Mayweather, Cyborg In Reddit AMA (Photos)

Ronda Rousey made the internet happy on Monday by jumping onto Reddit to participate in one of their famous “Ask Me Anything” (AMA) segments. For those unfamiliar, it’s exactly what it sounds like — famous, notable or interesting people log onto Reddit and reply to any and all questions from Redditors. Everyone from Netflix employees to famous athletes like Rousey have participated, and it usually lends to some pretty fascinating information. Of course, Rousey doesn’t have to answer every question, but she certainly jumped into the fire with a few of them. For example, she threw some fuel onto her beef with boxer Floyd Mayweather when a...

Justin Masterson Designated For Assignment; Red Sox To Add Bullpen Arm

by Zack Cox on Sun, Aug 9, 2015 at 5:39PM 1,944 Sunday’s shaky relief appearance might have been Justin Masterson’s last in a Boston Red Sox uniform. The Red Sox designated the right-hander for assignment after he gave up a solo home run in one-plus inning of work in a 7-2 win over the Detroit Tigers. The earned run raised Masterson’s ERA this season to 5.61 — the worst among all Red Sox relievers. “It was consistent strike-throwing, when you boil it down to it,” manager John ...

Red Sox Notes: John Farrell Not Ruling Out Shakeup In Boston’s Bullpen

Henry Owens someday will have an interesting story to tell. Owens was solid Tuesday night for the Boston Red Sox in his major league debut against the New York Yankees, yet the box score forever will indicate that the left-hander suffered the loss in a 13-3 drubbing at Yankee Stadium. A thorough look at the box score of course reveals that Owens pitched well and that Boston’s bullpen was to blame for the lopsided final. The eyeball test backs up that notion. The Sox’s ‘pen was really bad. Let’s run down some notes from Tuesday, which featured one high and a whole bunch of lows. Click for the Red Sox Wrap >> —

Holly Sonders Taking 16-Year-Old Amateur Golfer To Prom After Bet

Andrew Orischak is a 16-year-old amateur golfer. He’s also taking Holly Sonders to prom. Orischak made a bet with Sonders last week when he was competing in the U.S. Junior Amateur Championship. If he won, Sonders had to go to prom with him. She agreed. Unfortunately for Orischak, he lost a five-shot lead with eight holes to play and finished second. But the lucky teenager receive a nice surprise from the two-time defending “Most Attractive Woman In Golf.” “Your mom has my phone number.”  What a line. It didn’t seem to affect Orischak, though, who still was pretty disappointed following his loss. It’s a nice gesture...
