Dustin Pedroia Fouls Ball Off Ankle, Exits Red-Sox Dodgers With Injury

Dustin Pedroia suffered a pretty painful, self-inflicted injury Friday night.

The Boston Red Sox second baseman was batting against Los Angeles Dodgers pitcher Scott Kazmir in the top of the third inning at Dodger Stadium when he fouled a 2-2 offering hard off his left ankle.

Pedroia fell to the ground in pain, as manager John Farrell and the Red Sox’s training staff immediately came out to check on him.

Pedroia finished the at-bat but clearly was hurting, as the usually hard-running veteran jogged slowly down the line after grounding out to second base and walked gingerly back to the dugout.

His night ended with that play, as Travis Shaw entered the game in his spot and moved to third base, with Aaron Hill bumping over to fill the void at second base.

Pedroia entered the game with a .300 batting average on the season and has missed just three games this entire season.
