Novak Djokovic Tops Andy Murray, Wins Sixth Australian Open In Straight Sets

The Australian Open must be Novak Djokovic’s favorite Grand Slam tournament. The No. 1 men’s tennis player beat Andy Murray in straight sets (6-1, 7-5, 7-6 (7-3)) Sunday to earn his sixth title in Melbourne, tying Roy Emerson’s record for most Australian Open wins. The win also represents Djokovic’s 11th Gram Slam victory. The No. 2 Murray probably doesn’t have the same feelings as Djokovic about the Australian Open, as he’s now lost all five finals he’s been in, four of them coming against the 28-year-old Serbian native. But Murray has other business to attend to, as his wife is due to give birth any day now. As for Djokovic, the...

Australian Open 2016: Day 2 Men’s Results, Highlights, First-Round Scores

The first round of the 2016 Australian Open ended Tuesday, and one of the best players in the world went home early. Rafael Nadal, a 14-time Grand Slam champion, was upset in five sets by Fernando Verdasco. It’s only the second time Nadal has been upset in Round 1 of a major tournament. There were no other significant upsets Tuesday. All four semifinalists from last year — Novak Djokovic, Andy Murray, Tomas Berdych and Stan Wawrinka — won their first round matchups. Other notable stars such as Roger Federer and David Ferrer also are through to the next round. Australian Lleyton Hewitt won his first-round matchup in straight sets, much to ...

Twelve months ago Djokovic won a fourth-round clash against Wawrinka 12-10 in the fifth set in Melbourne while the outcome was the same when they met in the last four at the US Open. But this time, as the clock registered four hours, Djokovic placed a volley wide on Wawrinka's

Barty wins girls’ title to seal Australian double

Ashleigh Barty completed a memorable double for Australia when she won the Wimbledon girls' singles title with a 7-5, 7-6 (7/3) victory over Russia's Irina Khromacheva in the final on Sunday. Just 24 hours after Barty's compatriot Luke Saville won the boys' title against Britain's Liam Broady, the 15-year-old became only the second Australian girl to win the junior Wimbledon singles, and the first for 31 years. Queensland-based Barty battled back from a break down in the both sets to emulate Debbie Freeman's triumph in 1980. Khromacheva, 16, made a fast start as the third seed broke in the third game. But 12th seed Barty broke back to level at 4-4 and then converted her second set point with a stinging forehand. Barty, the first

Novak Djokovic vs Tomas Berdych — 2011 Australian Open Quarterfinals

2008 Australian Open champion Novak Djokovic faces Tomas Berdych in the quarterfinals of the 2011 Australian Open. Both players are hot. Berdych easily dismissed Fernando Verdasco while Djokovic had no problem with Nicolas Almagro. I expect Berdych to play first-strike tennis -- take chances and keep the points short -- because longer rallies favor Djokovic. My call is Djokovic in four competitive sets. What do you think? Who wins this Australian Open qua...
