The Boston Red Sox’s strong suit going into the playoffs was their offense, but that’s not how it worked out Thursday. The Red Sox dropped Game 1 of their American League Division Series against the Cleveland Indians 5-4, partly because of a lackluster performance from starter Rick Porcello, who gave up three solo home runs in the third inning. However, the offense really didn’t do Porcello any favors. The Red Sox were swinging at everything and especially had trouble with breaking balls. You shouldn’t throw things at people. It’s just not very nice. But some fan in the outfield bleachers at Rogers Centre on Tuesday during the Toronto Blue Jays-Baltimore Orioles American League Wild Card Game apparently didn’t know that. As Orioles left fielder Hyun-Soo Kim went to catch a fly ball for the third out in the bottom of the seventh inning, someone threw a beer can onto the field, and it came dangerously close to hitting him. The Seattle Seahawks quarterback left Sunday’s blowout 38-17 victory over the San Francisco 49ers twice due to what the team is calling a sprained left knee. Wilson’s knee bent horrifically in the wrong direction during one play in which he was scrambling to his right, and he left the game but returned after missing only one snap.
