Penguins One Win Away From Stanley Cup After Game 4 Victory Vs. Sharks

The Pittsburgh Penguins are one step closer to hoisting their first Stanley Cup since 2009. The Penguins took a commanding three-games-to-one lead over the San Jose Sharks in the Stanley Cup Final with a 3-1 win in Game 4 on Monday night. The Penguins had a 2-0 lead heading into the third period thanks to goals by Evgeni Malkin and Ian Cole, but the Sharks made it a one-goal game again after Melker Karlsson struck at the 8:07 mark in the third period. But any chance at a San Jose comeback was wiped away when Eric Fehr scored with just over two minutes remaining. The Penguins now can clinch the Stanley Cup on home ice with

Steph Curry Can’t Contain Excitement As Warriors Win NBA Finals Game 2

If MVP awards were given out after two games of a series, Draymond Green would be sporting some new hardware. Fake awards can be given out whenever we want, though, which means Stephen Curry officially is the Most Entertaining Bench Reactor of the NBA Finals. Green was an unstoppable force for the Golden State Warriors, who blew out the Cleveland Cavaliers 110-77 in Game 2. He finished with a game-high 28 points, including five 3-pointers, and added seven rebounds and five assists. But it was that final 3-pointer, which came off the dribble, that had Curry — owner of multiple NBA 3-point shooting records — in shambles on the bench.

Sharks Turn Predators Into Prey, Eliminate Nashville In Game 7 Blowout

The beards are coming. Joe Thornton, Logan Couture and the San Jose Sharks advanced to the Western Conference Finals for the first time since 2011 with a 5-0 Game 7 shutout of the Nashville Predators on Thursday night. Five different Sharks scored goals on the evening. Logan Couture finished with a game-high three points on a goal and two assists, while Joe Thornton and Patrick Marleau each had a goal and an assist apiece. This four-on-one goal was sort of a microcosm of the night. The Sharks will face the St. Louis Blues, who defeated the Dallas Stars earlier this week in a Game 7 of their own. Thumbnail photo

Pete Frates’ No. 3 officially was retired by the Boston College baseball program at Pellagrini Diamond at Shea Field on Saturday. Frates, who was diagnosed with Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis in 2012, was there as the Eagles honored their former captain and current director of baseball operations. “This is such a huge thing for our family,” Frates’ wife, Julie Frates, told NESN’s Sarah Davis on Saturday. “This is a legacy for Pete and our family. Celtics Show Resolve With Game 1 Comeback, But Slow Starts A Concern

There are two different ways to look at the Boston Celtics’ Game 1 loss to the Atlanta Hawks on Saturday, and both have their merits. First, for the glass-half-full crowd: The Celtics played arguably their worst offensive first half of basketball, yet only lost by one point. After scoring just 34 first-half points and trailing by as many as 17 points, Boston displayed courage and resolve by actually taking the lead early in the fourth quarter and fighting until the very last second. “Hey, we ride this way, right?” head coach Brad Stevens said in a postgame interview aired on CSN New England. “We guard, we grind, we try to find a way. And to
