The Boston Bruins weren’t able to complete their comeback Friday night at PPG Paints Arena. Boston trailed the Pittsburgh Penguins 3-1 entering the third period, but the B’s battled back to tie the game midway through the final frame. But a crucial icing penalty allowed Pittsburgh to take a faceoff in Boston’s zone, leading to Jake Guentzel tipping home the go-ahead goal. After the Bruins’ 5-3 loss, head coach Bruce Cassidy was disappointed with his team’s lack of execution on the crucial icing penalty. Red Sox Notes: Lack Of Run Support Troubling Rick Porcello This Season
Aside from being dominant on the mound, Rick Porcello’s march to the 2016 American League Cy Young Award was assisted by the Boston Red Sox bats. The right-hander received an outpouring of run support in nearly every start last season, which helped him amass a 22-4 record en route to baseball’s highest pitching honor. It’s been a much different tale of the tape this season, though, as the Red Sox offense, for whatever reason, has been quiet on nights Porcello takes the hill. Wednesday’s outing was no different, as Boston was defeated 4-1 by the Minnesota Twins, marking Porcello’s 10th loss of the 2017 campaign. To be clear, Porcello ha... NESN.com
Eddie Lack Stretchered Off Ice After Collision On Red Wings’ OT Goal Vs. Hurricanes
It’s been a tough season for NHL goaltenders from an injury perspective, and the latest netminder to get hurt was Eddie Lack of the Carolina Hurricanes on Monday night. Lack collided with Detroit Red Wings forward Andreas Athanasiou as he scored the game-winning goal in overtime at PNC Arena. There was a lot of contact between the players, and Lack immediately fell to the ice in pain. Lack had to be stretchered off the ice, but the ‘Canes provided an encouraging update after the game. The Red Wings stayed on the ice until Lack exited the ice, which was a class gesture on their part. The Red Wings now are 6-3-1
Dont’a Hightower Mum On Patriots D’s Lack Of Playmakers: ‘That’s Out Of My Pay Grade’
The New England Patriots’ defense has been huge weakness for the team this season, but the players are leaving that topic up to coach Bill Belichick. New England traded linebacker Chandler Jones this offseason, traded linebacker Jamie Collins during their Week 9 bye and made defensive end Jabaal Sheard inactive before Sunday’s game against the San Francisco 49ers without any explanation. Dont’a Hightower joined “Ordway, Merloni & Fauria” on Monday and was asked if he was “comfortable” with the Patriots’ lack of playmakers on defense, but the defensive captain didn’t offer much insight. “Whether I am comfortable or not, that’... Bruins Bemoan Lack Of Aggressiveness After Laying Egg Vs. Predators
by Zack Cox on Fri, Feb 19, 2016 at 12:00AM 370 When a team plays a half-dozen consecutive games away from its home arena, there’s a good chance at least one of those will end up being a stinker. For the Boston Bruins, that dud came Thursday night in Nashville. Signs of life were few and far between for the Bruins in the penultimate game of their season-long six-game road trip, a 2-0 loss to a Predators team that had won just two of its previous five games. “We weren’t ready to play...

Former Sabre Rob Ray Calls Buffalo’s Lack of Response to Milan Lucic’s Hit on Ryan Miller ‘Very Disappointing’
Rob Ray spent more than 13 seasons with the Buffalo Sabres and knows a thing or two about sticking up for a teammate. So when the Sabres did nothing following Milan Lucic's hit on Ryan Miller, he was very disappointed. Ray, who played with Buffalo from 1989-2003, said the Sabres had the players on the ice who would do something, so it was a bit surprising to see Lucic get let off the hook. And while he would have liked to have seen the Sabres take more initiative, he doesn't expect too much to happen in the way of fights when the teams hook up in Buffalo on Wednesday night. To hear what else the former Sabre had to say, check out
