Martellus Bennett Shines As Blocker For Patriots In Rob Gronkowski’s Place

Martellus Bennett played a key role in the New England Patriots’ season-opening win over the Arizona Cardinals. Serving as the No. 1 tight end in place of the injured Rob Gronkowski, Bennett hardly left the field Sunday night, playing 97.2 percent of New England’s offensive snaps (69 of 71) in his regular-season Patriots debut. While he was targeted just four times in the 23-21 victory and didn’t catch his first pass until the third quarter, the 6-foot-6, 273-pound tight end did yeoman’s work as a blocker for running backs LeGarrette Blount — who gained the bulk of his 70 rushing yards while

Notre Dame’s Torii Hunter Jr. Takes Bad Hit, Goes Limp As Dad Watches On

Well this was a scary hit. Notre Dame senior wide receiver Torii Hunter Jr. took a hard hit to the head in the end zone during the third quarter of Sunday night’s Fighting Irish vs. Texas Longhorns matchup. Hunter Jr., the son of former MLB All-Star Torii Hunter, initially caught the pass which would have been a go-ahead touchdown, but dropped the ball after taking the two hard hits. He appeared to go limp afterward, causing concern, but moved his extremities while on the ground and eventually walked off under his own power. He was being evaluated in the locker room when Hunter Sr. and his family joined him there. Hunter

Tom Brady’s Dime To Chris Hogan Highlights Patriots QB’s Preseason Debut

by Zack Cox on Fri, Aug 26, 2016 at 9:18PM 1,173 Share this: Tom Brady played full-speed football for the first time in 215 days Friday night, and he looked … well, he looked a lot like Tom Brady. After not suiting up for either of the New England Patriots’ first two preseason games, Brady entered early in the second quarter of New England’s exhibition matchup with the Carolina Panthers and immediately made his presence felt. Brady found Aaron Dobson for a 37-yard gain on his first throw of the night, and after consecutive drops forced the Patriots to settle for a field goal, he dropped his next pass into the outstretched arms of Patriots newcomer Chris Hogan for a 33-yard touchdown. Brady played four consecutive series before relinquishing the reins to Jimmy Garoppolo, who started

Drew Brees Spins Away From Two Defenders, Throws Touchdown Pass (Video)

Apparently Drew Brees is much more mobile than originally thought. The New Orleans Saints quarterback certainly looked like one of the more athletic signal-callers in the league during the third quarter of Sunday’s game against the San Francisco 49ers, as he pulled off some elusive moves en route to hooking up with tight end Jimmy Graham in the end zone. On 3rd-and-six from the 49ers’ 11-yard line, Brees looked like he was going down and going down in a hurry, but he managed to avoid a sack by spinning away from two defenders. The impressive play that looked like something out of a video game got even better when Brees threw an 11-yard touchdown pass to Graham.

2011 NFL Mock Draft: New England Patriots Kick off Their Draft with Pass Rusher

The Patriots Take Ryan Kerrigan Bill Belichick won the 201 NFL Draft. Looking up and down the draft, no one got better contribution from so many rookies than the New England Patriots. It almost defies belief. The Patriots have three needs the experts have identified for this year. One of the main areas of need is a new pass rusher. Given the depth of talent in the pass rushing area, Belichick will address the pass rush first (assuming he does not trade down here). The Patriots could address the offensive line or the need for a deep receiving threat here, but with one more pick in the first round, they’ll go with the best pass rusher first.
