Protesters Unfurl Giant ‘Impeach Trump’ Banner After Nationals’ Opening Day Win
Maybe it’s a good thing Donald Trump didn’t throw out the first pitch at Nationals Park after all. The President of the United States declined the Washington Nationals’ invitation to take part in the club’s Opening Day festivities before Monday’s game against the Miami Marlins, forgoing what’s been a tradition since William Taft threw out a first pitch in 1910. But if he had gone to the game, he probably wouldn’t have liked what he saw after the Nats beat the Marlins 4-2, as a group of protesters unfurled an enormous “Impeach Trump” banner painted on a Russian flag. The sign was confiscated for violating stadium policy, and one o... NESN.com

Braves, Marlins Clear Benches After Jose Ramirez Buzzes Jose Fernandez
Share this: A couple of pitchers named “Jose” were at the center of a heated situation Wednesday night at Turner Field. The Braves and Marlins cleared the benches when Atlanta reliever Jose Ramirez threw a pitch over the head of Miami ace Jose Fernandez. Fernandez had been squaring around to bunt in the seventh inning when he received the chin music from Ramirez. No punches were thrown once everyone ran onto the field, but it was a rather tense game, all things considered. Braves starter Julio Teheran almost hit Fernandez in the fifth inning and plunked Martin Prado in the sixth, after which Fernandez drilled Nick Markakis. Perhaps that sequence of events sparked Ramirez’s purpose pitch in the seventh, although it’s
The pitch invader who upstaged Garrincha
The 1962 FIFA World Cup™ quarter-final between Brazil and England, witnessed Garrincha at his brilliant best. The tournament’s outstanding player scored twice, one a brilliant long-range curler, in a dazzling virtuoso performance. Even his victims were wowed, with one English newspaper lauding Brazil’s entertainer supreme as “Stanley Matthews, Tom Finney and a snake charmer all rolled into one”.The Three Lions had been well aware of Garrincha and the threat he posed, with manager Walter Winterbottom having spoken at length to his players about the importance of stopping him. That would prove easier said than done. As Johnny Haynes, an England star of that era, w...
Craig Kimbrel Asked To Pitch In Red Sox-Rangers Game On Heels Of Rough Outing
BOSTON — Tuesday night’s game left a pretty bad tasted in Craig Kimbrel’s mouth, but he was able to wash that out with a bit of persuasion Wednesday. The Red Sox closer imploded in Tuesday’s 7-2 loss to the Texas Rangers, allowing a season-high four runs without recording an out in a continuation of his struggles in non-save situations. As such, it might have come as a surprise when Kimbrel trotted out in the ninth inning Wednesday in another non-save situation against Texas. But according John Farrell, Kimbrel approached the Red Sox manager before the game and asked for a chance to put Tuesday’s rough outing behind him. “We had talk...
