Porsche Previews Upcoming Tesla Rival With All-Electric Cayman Concept

Porsche is trying to build excitement around its upcoming rival for the Tesla Model S. On Monday at the Electric Vehicle Symposium in Stuttgart, Germany, Porsche revealed the Cayman e-volution, an all-electric research car that previews the Mission E, which is set to launch in 2019. Although Porsche didn’t release any information regarding the e-volution’s power output, it revealed that the battery-powered Cayman can accelerate from zero to 100 kph (62 mph) in 3.3 seconds. The gasoline-powered 718 Cayman, for perspective, takes 3.9 seconds just to reach 60 mph, even with Porsche’s available PDK automatic transmission. In addition to previewing t... NESN.com

Automotive News Roundup: Hyundai Gifts New Car To Hurricane Harvey Hero

Product releases aren’t the only ways that car manufacturers, both traditional and novel, make headlines. Throughout this week, the automotive news cycle focused as much on current events such as Porsche’s new Nurburgring lap record, as it did on preparation for things to come, including Mercedes-Benz’s $ 1-billion investment in its Tuscaloosa, Ala., plant. What’s more, in the wakes of a series of devastating hurricanes, OEMs also have been in the news for their humanitarian efforts, just as NASCAR driver Jimmie Johnson has. Here are three stories that made headlines throughout the automotive world this week: Vacuum Manufacturer ... NESN.com

Porsche Tuner Puts Manual In 911 GT3 RS, Confirming Unicorns Are Real

Porsche Tuner Puts Manual In 911 GT3 RS, Confirming Unicorns Are Real

There are very few absolute truths in the automotive world, but one thing that enthusiasts have begrudgingly accepted as fact is that Porsche won’t make a 911 GT3 RS with a manual transmission. But that doesn’t mean you can’t still have one. Ormond Beach, Fla.-based BGB Motorsports, which runs Porsches in the IMSA Continental Tire SportsCar Challenge, recently posted pictures and videos of a customer’s GT3 RS that it has almost finished converting to a manual. BGB’s office manager Wray Gillette told Road & Track that it purchased the six-speed manual from a 911 R from a Porsche dealer for $ 22,000 and is charging $ 45,000 to fit it

Xbox Unveils Porsche 911 GT2 RS, ‘Forza Motorsport 7’ During E3 2017

The fight to develop the best 4K sim racing game is officially in full swing. Xbox unveiled the 4K trailer for “Forza Motorsport 7” Sunday during its presentation at Electronic Entertainment Expo 2017. It also pulled the tarp off the highly anticipated Porsche 911 GT2 RS. Partnering with an automaker for E3 is nothing new for developer Turn 10 Studios. It revealed the Ford GT alongside “Forza Motorsport 6,” and the McLaren P1 with “Forza Motorsport 6.” It’s surprising that Turn 10 kept such a tight lid on “Forza 7,” as the game is slated for a fall release, and it’s main rivals have been heavily promoting their upcoming insta... US Dealers Calling On Porsche To Further Expand Panamera Lineup

US Dealers Calling On Porsche To Further Expand Panamera Lineup

When Porsche revealed the new Panamera Sport Turismo, we joked the wagon made the sedan variant seem pointless. Those words apparently were truer than we even realized. Despite the lack of popularity of wagons in the United States, the Sport Turismo has made a lot of noise since its release, as it improves on the looks of the Panamera 4. The model also is the talk of the town among U.S. dealers, though for a different reason, according to Automotive News. In addition to improving on its appearance, the Sport Turismo also fixed the sedan’s other major problem. It is the first Panamera to be sold with five seats, which reportedly is something dealers ... NESN.com

Share this: It looks like Tony Stewart and Felipe Massa aren’t the only big-name drivers hanging up their helmets after this season. After 18 years, former Formula One driver and reigning WEC driver’s champion Mark Webber has announced he will retire from professional racing, according to Porsche. Once the 2016 WEC season concludes, the Aussie will step into a new role with Porsche as a brand ambassador and motorsport consultant. “I have arrived where I belong,” Webber said in a statement. “Porsche is the brand I always loved most and the one that suits me the best. The 911 is iconic — it has got elegance, performance and understatement, and is never intrusive. It is just the right car for every scenario.” Over the course of his
